I've been trying to get some of these. The local camping shop thought they could get some, but are not so sure now. Does anyone know of a stockist - either a major store or a mail-order outlet? It would be much appreciated!

One of our preschool families is appealing for a place in the school of their choice. The father asked me today what sort of questions the panel were likely to ask. Not having been through the system I don't know. Any suggestions? Al

With me leaving in July, the committee are keen to get the job search underway. I had supposed that my deputy would take my role and the other qualified to take deputy. That left one trainee and one role to fill. The chair is adamant, that although all the committee are happy with the proposed moves (which they have already approached the staff with) all the positons should be advertised. In effect this means they will advertise and interview and still give the jobs to the staff, only taking on an assistant, and we already have one lined up. Why do we need to advertise when we know who the roles are going to? Any interviewees will be treated highly unfairly anyway.

Session Times

Hi I am a manager at a committee run pre-school. Our committee has decided they would like to put in 2 new sessions in the afternoon for our 3 yr olds. I just wondered what times other pre-school ran them from and too. None of my staff are happy to stay past 3.o.clock. As we have to put all the equipment away at the end of a session, i can't see us completing this by then which means i am left with my supervisor doing all the clearing away yet again. our morning session finishes at 11.45am. What do you do about Lunch, do you have seperate staff to do the afternoon sessions? Another point i am quite concerned about is that some of the parents already bring their childr…

Lunch Club

Hi I have been trying to sort out the staff hours for september. My problem is we are introducing a lunch club from september, we are a pre-school in a building where we have to set up and put away every day, we run a morning session and an afternoon session, children will have the choice of attending one session and the lunch club. My question is how do you staff them, do you have seperate staff for the lunch club, or do the staff work the sessions and lunch club. The lunch club will be in a back room, seperate from the pre-school rooms. Or do the staff work one session and the lunch club, the logistics of this at the moment seem a nightmare. It was a committee descisi…

Hi I have decided it's a very lonely place being a Manager. There doesn't seem to be anybody to turn to, apart from the good old forum to have a moan at. I only have 6 members of staff and 3 are leaving in July, i have manged to replace 1. I had to speak to my supervisor on Friday now that has caused a bit of an atmosphere today. I have asked her many times to make sure she does the register as soon as they come in but she keeps leaving it and not getting it done till 15 minutes after the children are in. I have explained that if the fire alarm goes off we need to know who is on the premises but it seems to goin one ear and out the other!!!!I also keep catching her ta…

Hi All, Our 2 settings are being taken over by the PLA in July this year and there has been a mixed reaction amongst the staff team. Does anyone here work in a PLA setting? I'm looking for peoples views and thoughts, positive and negative, just to get an idea on what to expect really. Things like setting fees, staff salaries, training, support etc would be great. Thanks in advance, Sarah xxx

Being Paid For Training

I am just interested to know what other sessional pre-schools do when their staff go on a training course. Do you pay them for their time? milage? Do you pay for planning meetings? Cupboard tidying etc? At present, we are not paid for attending short courses or for planning meetings ect. As a Deputy I am also not paid for the paperwork I do at home. The other staff members have now requested that there is some sort of renumeration for going on courses etc . (There is a pay scale on completion of Level 2 and 3 courses). What do you do? Thank you Jenni x
