Not A Happy Bunny!

Hello All. I am just after another piece of advice really... I received a phone call today (on my private home phone number) from the mother of the child with the selective mutism. To say I was quite shocked, would be an understatement, particularly as I haven't given out my phone number! Obviously the parents all have the number to the pre-school. She informed me that she had been given my number by a senior member of staff and told to ring me over the weekend if she had any worries, concerns etc. So she did!! I'm extremely annoyed that my personal number has been given out as this is a breach of confidentiality plus I have enough pre-school type work to…

Hi everyone, hope you are all enjoying the better weather. The deputy supervisor of my mum's pre-school is leaving and she has advertised for the post. I'm a reception teacher and often for teaching interviews we have to do an activity with some children. I was wondering if anyone had asked an interviewee for a deputy role to do a similar thing. Could we ask them to prepare a short activity for CLL or mathematical development for example. As they need to be level 3 they should have some experience in planning and preparing tasks. Mum wants someone that can run the pre-school confidently in her absence as she will be looking after my little boy when i return to work for 2…

I am currently being trained up to take over a private day nursery school as the manager. We received a phone call today from Ofsted asking to come in and interview me to ensure that I am a suitable person to become a manager!! He did not leave any information with our secretary as to what he would be asking. I was wondering if any of you have recently had this interview and what kind of things will they be asking. I really feel that I need to be prepared for every eventuality. Looking forward to hearing from as many of you as possible!! Many thanks

Private Nursery School
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi This is a tricky one and one that I am not able to talk to my staff about yet so any advice from all of you would be very welcome. I am the director and manager of a nursery school which I have run for 16 years. I have been through so many changes and feel maybe now is the time to think of moving on (or over). Increasingly, as I am sure many of you find, I am so tired at the end of a day that there is nothing outside of the 'job'. So I am thinking how do I do it? Do I sell it and how do I get a valuation? Do I appoint a manager and just take a back seat? Do I carry on knowing that it is increasingly hard to keep enthusiastic about yet more changes? Any advice…

Hi We have recently advertised for new staff, we will be taking on 3 new members of staff for the start of september. I wanted to give them all new contracts. I feel our old contract doesn't cover all the issues that arise, i.e training, etc. Does anybody have any advice of what i need to include. I thought the pre-school learning alliance did a staff contract but have been unable to find it to see what they included. Any advice greatly appreciated

Maternity Leave
by Guest- 4 replies

Hello, I have a colleague who is on maternity leave at the moment and is taking another 6 months unpaid leave. The problem is, we have a new member of staff (to replace me) that is unable to work one day, so would it be legal to ask the one on maternity to work days around this other girl. She used to work 7 out of the 8 sessions, but has told us that she only wants to come back for 2. I was told that if you are on the paid maternity leave you are entitled to come back your usual hours if you want to, but it's different if you take an extra 6 months. Are you confused?......... Can anyone clarify. Thanks in advance kymberley

Out Of A Job
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi. I have come home early from work today as I have just been informed that my job will soon be no more... Our numbers are going to drop considerably in June/July when the majority of our children head off to school, apparently there are no children to fill the places and so the pre-school is going to close. My manager has said that she has had enough of the whole business and as she has other 'projects' taking up her time, she feels she has no option but to close down the pre-school. I feel really down about the whole thing, as we managed to sort out our differences and our working relationship seemed to be better than ever. I suppose I'm feeling a bit sorry for…

I wonder if anyone could tell me their procedure for inducting new members of staff. Seems so many things to tell them not sure how to break it down. Also can anyone tell me a website where I can order new copies of the national standards. I keep finding the guidance but not the standards online. Thanks, Jean.

Our preschool is planning to change over from sessional day care to full day care next term I have informed OFSTED and they need me to compile an action plan detailing how we meet the the national standards for full day care. Only the standards which are not included in sessional day care need to to be addressed. I could get both sets of standards, sit down for many hours, and play spot the difference but I was hoping that someone else may have already gone through this process and could point me in the right direction.
