Just wondering if any of you out there have established a pre-school on a school site. If you have, do you have a separate building? How did you finance it? and are you linked with the school or independant? Any feedback would be much appreciated as we are having many obsticles put in our way! Thanks in advance.

I am considering a job in the private sector as a Deputy Manager. I am a little bit concerned about going to an interview as the wage is described as 'negotiable'. What should I expect? Please give me some guidance as I am uncomfortable about the situation. Many thanks. Mella

Funding
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi I just wanted to seek advice about funding. We had a child at our pre-school who went on holiday for two weeks then never returned to the setting. That was 12 weeks ago, we telephoned but we never had any response. I informed our administrator that she wasn't on the premises from her first no show 12 wks ago. Last week i finally decided to give her space away to someone of the waiting list, and yes she turned up on friday with no explanation of where she had been, i explained to the parents that i had given her space away to someone else but i would have room for her after easter, they were happy with that but i did not realise our administrator had been claiming fund…

I am hopeing that those of you that work in the pre-school sector can help me. We have several parents who are continualy arriving late at the end of a session, and although they apologise, continue to do so. We have explained that we are not insured after 3.00p.m. that staff have to maintain ratio's etc. We are thinking of charging them for this time, but how much? How do we enforce it if parents refuse to pay? We have a very good relationship with our parents which makes the situation in some ways harder to deal with. Thank you in advance for any advice offered.

Staff Handbooks
by Guest- 3 replies

It occurs to me that it would be really useful for my staff to have something where they can keep things like copies of policies, handouts from inservice training etc. Something over and above the inducction pack etc. I've found a format for a student handbook on here, but I wondered if anyone had got a format for a staff handbook they were prepared to share. I thought that something that could go in a ring binder or similar might work, so that papers can be added - as of course they'll definitely need to be! Any ideas gratefully received and considered!

Crb Checks

Hi, How often do you renew CRB checks? Mine is over 3 yrs (Sept 2001). I had thought they need to be renewed every 3 yrs, ( don't know where I got that from though). I phoned Ofsted and the lady said that they didn't have an actual time scale required for renewal but as it is over 3 yrs I should think about having another one done. She then went on to say that because I am the owner (registered person) my I.D. has to be verified by an Inspector. I remember doing this for my first CRB, the local social services social worker had just become an Inspector and endorsed my CRB ( just at the time of the ofsted takeover, and my application for starting my business/ re…

I have a 11 month old child who attends my setting. Just before xmas it was noticed that she had quite bad nappy rash. When she returned after the hols it had become severe (bleeding/blisters). Mum did not bring this to our attention, we questionned her later when she collected. She just seemed to brush it off saying "yeah, i know its quite bad..." We advised her to make a docs appt to get some antibiotic cream. When she returned the follwing week the situation had not improved, mum informed us that doc did not examine her as she had pooed and mum couldn't change her as she had no spare nappies with her. Mum has also informed us that she does not change her nap…

Children Preparing Snacks
by Guest- 8 replies

I don't know how to express this simply, but here goes anyway: We have a philosophy of the children preparing as much of the snack as possible for themselves - cutting up apples etc. Obviously they don't do things like the toast, which is prepared in the kitchen. One of my staff has just contested the Deputy Manager's approach on children preparing snacks, on the grounds that if we are being ever more strict on the hygiene staff need to observe when preparing children's food, there is no way these standards can be enforced if they prepare their own. [The staff are obviously careful about children washing hands etc] This has caught me on the hop a bit, not help…
