wonder if anyone could help. we use pictures like bob the builder on our childrens name cards in the setting, my kitemark mentor mentioned that at "the office" someone said we shouldnt be using them because of copyright laws, they are only used for name cards for register and name recognition. does anyone know the laws regarding this? if i do have to inform anyone, how would i go about it? i would love to put them straight next time i see them, just to prove a point!!!! any help would be great

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find out information about setting up a nursery school from scratch, or has anyone done it.... I'm just looking through all the pros and cons, but can't find much information on actually setting one up and the requirements of doing so... Cheers

I have been offered an interview for a nursery position tomorrow, and am now panicking in a major way!!!!!! I have been asked to read a story to 25 nursery children, then to ask suitable questions, and then to provide suggested activities to support the story... 25 nursery seems like quite a lot, I don't know, especially as I don't know the abilities of the children...... I'm thinking of using lullabyhullabaloo, as I have some props to support this, also can use it as a focus to help the children get really quiet ie princess doesn't like noise, can get the children to join in with repetition 'ssshhh', then saying lullaby at the end... Activities - i'm thinking o…

I give my other staff appraisals yrly so do I give the 2 new staff appraisals now with the others or do I wait til next yr. Do I have to do them more often than every year or a is there a legal requirement of how and when and who does mine. I do have a committee but not one of any use and especially wouldn't want to give their time up for this. Had a committee meeting last night and only 2 parents turned up. I give up with committees. Pay And Graduate Leadership

Hi I have just received this months copy of Practical Preschool, and there is an article about the governments idea regarding graduates running early years settings. It got me thinking again(!) about funding. I own and run a private pre-school, we rely on the Nursery funding and fees of £5 per session to function. My staff are Level 2 + 3 qualified and I am doing a Foundation Degree with University of Worcester. I pay my staff above national minimum wage, with the L3's slighly more. What with rent, wages, resources etc. How could I afford to pay the thousands required from a graduate?? I dont even pay myself that. I have no access to funding from the L…

Hi can anyone help please. I am trying to find a 'document' which has the stepping stones on a 'tick sheet' which you can see easily if/when you have covered them. I have seen a document like this somewhere on the internet, but at the time I didn't realise the significance of having it. I have recently found a great document (on FSF) with just the Maths and CLL s/stones on which we are going to use for target setting but would like to track the 'overall' coverage. Otherwise I think it's a job for summer! Thanks

Has any one else heard this? Apparently, because of the cost of all the CRB's, Ofsted are saying that the manager will need a CRB but then she can decide whether or not the rest of the staff need to do one. Our PLA DW told me but also that the PLA are checking this.

Pre-school Administrator

Hi - My committee want to employ an administrator to do all the work for them. I think this is a great idea as they are hopeless at getting anything done (bless them) and it might encourage other parents to join the committee. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a job description that I could have a look at. Also, how many hours and what hourly rate do you pay - I know its difficult to quantify as all pre-schools are run differently - just after a guide really. We are a full day care setting run from a parish hall with 5 staff and upto 33 children on our register, we run 6 sessions (3 full days) a week during term time - not sure if this info makes any di…

The committe have put down that the notice period that a member of staff have to give is 4 weeks. I would of thought that at least a terms notice would be better? Can anyone help. Also they want to pay half termly! does anyone else have this problem? and the other problem is probationary period, they have mentioned 4 weeks but again I think a term. Again could anyone advise. Thankyou
