We've got a tricky situation at the moment. The preschool is run along the lines that parents are welcome to stay as long as they feel the need for settling in purposes. There's one family where the mother has been doing this throughout her recent pregnancy. Apparently father would only allow the child to attend if she was there too - something to do with his own past possibly. We talked through what would happen after the baby was born but didn't conclude the discussion because the baby arrived early. This morning father has arrived with the child & told staff he will be staying until child is old enough to tell father exactly what has happened - names and addresses …

Attached document I give to all parents so they know how to access Childcare tax credits. I know it's a contentious issue and we would prefer funding direct, but at least when parents tell me they can't afford the non funded sessions I provide I can tell them this is part funded by WFTC. Loss Of Revenue Insurance

I'm currently working my way through our PLA Insurance renewal and am pondering the wisdom of paying an additional premium (£46 ish for £10k cover) for Loss of Revenue insurance. We are a sessional group and 90% of our income is from NEG. Do I really need this additional cover? EYDCP no help as they are all on holiday! Does anyone have a crystal ball I can borrow? We've had a spate of bad vandalism recently but things are now better... if we were to close for a week or two due to fire/theft etc would an EYDCP expect us to pay back NEG? I searched through our NEG Terms & Conditions but found nothing either. Help!

my setting is trying to move from a village hall into a mobile on the school grounds. we have planning permission lease and legal side of it done, but need BIG MONEY to fund the mobil;e building itself. last year we put in a lottery bid, and good news, it was exepted, but the bad news, we were not classed as "needy enough" as were are not the most deprived area in norfolk. (tell my single, low income parents that!!) so, no money. we have gone to the press and radio, (i had to do an interview on radio) local businesses, schools ect but still have had no success. we are trying to raise about £40.000 or a donated building would be great. have raised only £6,000 s…

Has anyone had a member of staff that has left to have a baby and worked out employment law for maternity leave? I have a member of staff that is expecting a baby in October. She only works 3 sessions per week, so doesn't earn enough to pay National Insurance or tax. Do I have to pay any maternity pay when she leaves to have the baby? If so can I claim it back? Carolyn

Suitable Person Notebook
by Guest- 10 replies

I received a suitable person notebook at christmas. This notebook should be filled in by an OFSTED inspector in the form of an interview. I called OFSTED and asked why I had been sent it. They replied they did not understand why I had been sent one and to put it in the bin! A week later I was sent another, I called OFSTED again only to be given the same advice! Yet another one was sent to me, again, I gave them a call, to be told that I had to fill it in as there were not enough inspectors to visit all the settings in this part of the country. It took ages, however I did manage it. Anyway the question I have is has anyone else been sent one of these? Angie

I presently have 2 staff off sick with stress / depression. Whilst driving home today I thought about how often staff I have worked with over the years have had this to deal with. There was even an article recently in nursery world about how managers can recognise this in staff and support them. So, I wondered if this is a problem associated with working in the early years field and how much it does affect staff. Would any of you mind if I did a little research of numbers as there are so many people on this site? either post a reply or pm me. Thanks, as I do think this may be a hidden problem that needs considering. Question: IN THE LAST YEAR 1/ Have you suffer…
