Qualifications Needed 1 2

HIYA!!!!!!! I'm currently studying for a level 3 dce. I've been looking for jobs in the local rag and when i see them advertised all they seem to ask for is NVQ Level three Early Years & Education or Btec. I was advised, rightly or wrongly, that an NVQ 3 is a more senior qualification to the DCE3. This doesn't seem right to me as the NVQ3 only takes 12-15 months and one day in college, one in placement, whereas my DCE takes 2 years ,2 days placement and 3 days college a week, and is followed by an exam. Also what do any employers out there think about it, who would you be most likely to employ, NVQ3, BTec3 or DCE3?

As an unqualified pre-school assistant, I had a job description given to me in 1999. Over the last year, since I started my training, all the little bits I was responsible for (e.g. maintaining birthday chart graph, minuting staff meetings, etc.) have been taken away from me. Not officially, but just the leader telling me: "so-and-so is going to do that now". Today, I lost my last little bit of individuality. Now, I think I want my job description rewritten. I am good at putting things away. I am good at changing dirty nappies (3 in one day - and we are a pre-school). Any one can do these things. All the other staff get some good bits - they get …

Does anyone else run their pre-school from their own home? Our council have decided to charge us business rates for the part of the house we use for the pre-school, even though these three rooms become part of our family home after the four hour term-time session. They are, however, kindly reducing our band for council tax, but unfortunately the financial gains do not compensate for the business rates bill! What do other owners do?

I am a final year student needing help with my special study about leadership in early years. I would be very grateful if you could spend 5 mins answering a few questions . 1)Do you feel confident as a leader? if so, how do you feel this confident was built? if not, why? 2)Have you ever had or been offered training on leadership? (please state name & comment about it). 3) Do you feel more support should be provided for leadership in early years? 4) How would you describe your leadership skills? 5) Do you feel your leadership skills affect your daily work? if so, how? Thankyou for answering my questions this will be very helpful…

Hi, I'm on a roll now with all these questions, so here's another one. How do you find high calibre staff who are truly interested in children's learning and development, and are willing to continually improve their knowledge and skills?

Hello! Does anyone have any information about teaching mixed age classes - particularly teaching reception and year 1 children. I would particularly like to know about timetabling areas of learning and provision for both stages. I'm new to this site - so apologies in advance if this has posted in the wrong place.

Have been on your website Helen and Steve and I am really impressed. Where did you go to get such a good site or did you do it yourselves? I would like to put my pre-school onto the web and would be grateful for any advice you could give. Thanks Linda
