I wonder if anyone can clarify this for me? We are going to be starting using Tapestry in September so I recently got in touch with the ICO and after explaining what the Tapestry was to be used for, they told me that I did not need to register as the information was used solely for carrying out the requirements of the role (i.e. keyperson of a child and the need to observe and assess). Now I'm wondering if this is correct??

I wonder can any of you shed some light on this for me. I have a new member of staff starting next week who has just enrolled on a 'Cache L2 Cert in an Introduction to Early Years and education' when she got to the end of the enrollment process (took hours) she then discovered the course would be over two days, 9:30-3pm on both days. this is going to prove a nightmare as we cant really afford to have her gone for two days and they are the two days we would most need her on. We then discovered that our other local college did a 'Cache L2 cert for EY's and young people' but this is done over one morning. I'm really struggling to know what the difference in the c…

As the start of the new term approaches we review all our staff training to make sure that everything is as it should be (we also review these at annual appraisal). This means: We check all managers' DBS status through the update service and confirm with all staff that their DBS status remains unchanged, including their 'by association' status. You can check DBS here (as long as they have signed up for the update service) We check all staff health declarations and personal details remain unchanged We ask all staff to review their understanding of The Prevent Duty training (Free course)

Hello, How do you manage the invoicing and payments from parents? I am wondering whether to use quick books but a bit daunted by the process of starting up, completing information and costs to then find it doesn't work.. We are a busy setting with wrap around care and invoicing on excel doesn't seem to work Thanks

Hi, I am looking to improve staff performance and to devise an action plan for each staff member so that they can also monitor and Know what they need to do. How do you all monitor staff performance? I currently use supervisions/appraisals and peer observations. What else can I do or how can I use information more effectively to improve teaching and care? Thank you

Just finding out what everyone considers an 'accident' to be and when they get recorded and reported to parents. I am finding that we have sooo many accident records at the end of a day and half of these I wouldn't (as a parent) really have expected a form to sign. What about your setting?

Hi All Hoping for some suggestions please! We are full day care but also offer funded places. There are some parents who regularly pick up late and my policy is to charge them the same as fee-paying parents. However, they seem to take little notice of warnings then complain when they are charged - I think it is the mentality of "You're still open, what's the issue?" despite me constantly explaining about ratios and staff lunch breaks and that we are not paid for this extra time. We had a few parents towards the end of last term who were notching up an extra half hour a week with dropping off a few minutes early and picking up a few minutes late. I want to make…

Hi everyone, We are considering other ways in which we safeguard children who attend our setting. Currently, if a child does not turn up for a booked session we would not contact the parents that day, however, if they missed a few sessions we would contact the parents to check in and see if everything is okay. We do not have a time limit or set sessions missed on this though and it is not currently in any of our policies. So can I ask, does anyone have anything like this in place? And what is the time frame you give? If anyone would be happy to share their policy on the subject I would be very grateful. Thanks Sarah

Hi all. I'm just wondering how other settings manage allocating key children between staff. We have 5 staff who are key workers (including 1 apprentice who only has a couple of key children & is supported by me as manager) and currently have 52 children on the register for September. I know that lots more will come along in September and am wonder how we are going to manage to allocate all these children a key person. The other 4 staff already have more than 10 key children each which I think is too many, both in terms of giving the children the time & attention they need and in terms of paperwork. In the past we have had more staff but I really need to manage cos…
