Hi all, I am overhauling our admin structure and would like to find out how other settings run their office and admin side. Do you use excel for attendance and invoicing parents or do you use a program? We are a committee run charity - do any others use online banking or allow parents the opportunity to pay online - if so how???? Thank you

We are a private full day care setting and are wondering how other settings are planning on offering the 30 hours free entitlement. Also, how will this be financed to be economically viable. TIA

I have a member of staff who was injured in a car accident.............driver hit her with a huge wing mirror, when she was a pedestrian. This was a couple of years ago and the problems this caused are on-going. She has to go regularly to pain clinics; physio etc and only two weeks ago a new MRI was ordered which finally showed there is an on-going injury, which could cause continued problems for some time to come. Now, as a wonderfully lovely employer, I have paid her in full when she has had to go to appointments and I have reduced her workload as regards lifting, changing nappies and moving furniture etc( packaway setting). I have had a letter from her solicitor…

Every year at the end of term we hire our local soft play area and have a party for all the children. I always state that children must be accompanied by an adult as there are too many children for staff to supervise safely. Today a little girl has injured her wrist and after mum taking her to A & E it has turned out to be a fracture and she is now in plaster. My question is should I be reporting this to relevant bodies and recording/risk assessing as obviously it wasn't on pre-school grounds, parents had to stay. What do you think?

Hi, Does anyone else have difficulty obtaining references for new staff. Recently we have had to keep phoning and chasing previous employers to get references and some them are refusing to do it and some are telling us that it's company policy not to provide them. This is most frustrating. I do understand how time consuming it is to keep providing references and especially if someone has left a while back - but in the spirit of safeguarding children - we do it. I prepare a basic reference for everyone that leaves and save it in a file on the computer so that we can forward it by email every time anyone requests one - which is particularly useful if it's for someone that l…

More questions about qualifications!

Hello, I know qualifications have been done to death but i am struggling to find suitable information so please help. We are a PVI nursery who is governed by a school, they provide a midday supervisor to cover lunches. she works in the 2-3 room with at least a level 3 but she is counted in ratio. The staff room is immediately connected to the playroom so staff are called upon as required in an emergency. My question is are we actually allowed to include her in ratio, she has no formal qualifications just experience, this is for an hour a day. Also............ with the changes to GCSE's and being counted in ratio, can we still count students who are studying towards …

Hi We are currently a PVI sector preschool, we are a registered charity too. What I'm wanting to know is are you affiliated with a school in anyway? If so how and what input, constraints, positives etc this has? I'm looking at governance, ownership etc I'm not really wanting to have a take over more a partnership in whatever form this may take, also if anyone knows that works like this the liability and Ofsted impact it has. Thanks x

People permitted to contact Ofsted

Does anyone know the maximum number of people Ofsted will be prepared to have contact with from any one setting? At the moment, just our Chairperson can contact them, but we are requesting that our Supervisor also be recognised. Our Chairperson has also suggested that I as the administrator be permitted to discuss issues with them, but I'm not sure if that is allowed? Any ideas?
