Hi all As some of you may know we had a very bad inspection in January which was sabotaged by an 18yr old I had employed. This meant we were graded inadequate. Since then we have had an improvement advisor but she has offered very little advice and criticised everything we have tried to do or made out it was her idea. We have also had 2 monitoring visits from ofsted. After the first one I received a threat of £5000 fine if I didn't get a new level 3 employee to be the deputy manager (there is only 2 of us and my deputy is level 2). However, she gave me 2 weeks but one was during half term and so no trial could be done at the setting. I did employ someone but after…

My deputy is part time and a lovely person but she can only work part time due to the expensive cost of childcare (her words not mine). I am just a little worried that Ofsted may make me get a full time deputy on our next inspection or raise it as a cause for concern. Statutory guidance say level 3, competent and available to step into my shoes if I am off. She lives a fair distance away from the setting and doesnt drive....and with 2 young children it must be hard. A few weeks ago I was taken ill in the early hours and because she cant get there early enough for opening times and finishes at 2pm and setting closes at 3pm we had to close. This part time hours means also t…

Hi everyone, I currently use another online system for observations, tracking etc and although there are some great features on it, it is starting to drive me mad as it is just not reliable, sometimes information will upload, sometimes it won't, parts of the system work and some don't, at the moment, despite numerous calls and emails, we cannot view any child's progress at all, this is not helping staff to plan or to fill out transition documents. I'm now thinking of cutting my losses and switching to tapestry as i have heard so many of you praise it. My question is, what would you honestly say are the pros and cons of the system? can you always connect or does the si…

again! If someone has an NVQ2 in Early Years Care & Education gained in 2006 but has since not worked in childcare would you take that as a full & valid qualification? I cant find anything about being out of the workforce for that long

We have just been told that one of our parents gave birth on Friday and sadly the baby passed away a couple of hours later. The parents are bringing the 2 other children into nursery this afternoon as they want to try and keep a stable routine for them. To be honest, i'm not sure how to manage this. How do we support the parents and the children? how do i support my staff? My staff are all quite strong, unlike me, i'm a mess just writing this! If any of you have been through similar situations i would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Hi Has anyone else had an email from the above asking you to complete a survey with regards referrals and Safeguarding. It states that it is a legal requirement for me to complete survey but refers to us as a school not an Early Years Practice. Has anyone else had one? Thanks in advance

Hi folks, I'm so upset, angry and disappointed with my staff, and just don't know how to manage this, although I know I'm not managing it well at the moment! We are usually a tight team and get on well, all live in the village, known each other for years, supported each other through personal emotional stuff, and not just colleagues.... Like many of you, preschool is my passion, and I sacrifice a lot of my own time to do paperwork, planning, sorting ideas, cutting out displays, corresponding with parents, writing reports, answering emails.. Etc, etc, etc.... You know the kind of thing!, most of it unpaid.... None of the other staff do much if anything in the…

We have a financial worker who does our wages, i.e. I tell her how many hours we have done, and 10 minutes later she e-mails me the amounts to be paid. I just received her bill yesterday and for 3 staff, it was £400 for the year. Not sure if this is reasonable or not. Like with most things (except funding) it has gone up....she originally charged £5 per member of staff and it is now £9 something. Does anyone use a programme to do wages? We only need something for a few members if staff. Also, is there a programme or software for invoices you would recommend? We are a small pre-school with 30 children. Thanks
