Hello, I need to run this past you... Our manager has been signed off sick for 6 weeks. Thats come to an end and now she can come back on light duties but, she has an operation scheduled for the 17th June and another one for the 10th July both of which she says will need a week to recover from. She has constantly moaned at not being able to come into work so I suspect some badgering of the doc has been going on to come back now and I suspect she'll push herself to come back after only a weeks recovery when more might possibly be needed. She's been on SSP for 6 weeks, but what happens now? Does she go back onto wages? How does it work knowing shes got more time …

Hello all I am in the process of relocating and would like to make an outdoor area at the front of the new premises. This will mean the area is alongside the road at the front. It's not a main road, joins to an A road but has no obvious designation. Is anyone aware of any regs or guidance relating to air quality? Thanks in advance...

Well, the vote is in and the new Day Nursery in my village has been given planning permission and is opening in September! My preschool (packaway) established 20+ years. Good Ofsted. Great Team. Lovely outdoor play areas (which DN has'nt got - indoor jungle gym). open mornings 15hrs. (cannot offer more) How do I compete? With 30 'free' hours coming..... Anyone good at expressing the benefit of a good preschool? I know we have so much to offer and have always received high praise from parents - the children really do have fun and all go off to school together! However, I want to do a catchy flyer - but can't think of the right words........help please!

hi there, I am looking for recomendtions for nursery managment software. Ideally I was looking for software that included accountnacy software with it. In addition what payroll software would you recommend? Also a rough idea on costs would be fantastic. Is it a yearly subscription? I actually run an out of school club but am hoping the nursery software managment will still be relevant?! Thank you!

Hi! I am in the process of buying a day nursery which I will start running / managing in Sept. I have taught in infant schools for 12 years as a qualified teacher and have run my own childminding business for three years. I am looking forward to the challenge! I am currently in the process of recruiting staff. I will need one more full time member of staff, and a part time member of staff. Through conversations with nursery nurses I know, I'm told that a lot of nurseries change staff rotas on a weekly basis, so the hours are not fixed (although the number of hours required to work will remain constant). Is this correct? Thank you for your help x

Some of my staff have CRBs, some have DBSs. My understanding is that we don't need to update them. However, if they do have DBS do they have to do the mobile part of the check? And do they have to update it annually?

I have just hired a new member of staff who is a level 2 studying for a level 3 but am slightly worried that a long term member of staff will feel pushed out. The long term member of staff is level 2 and the group needs a level 3 due to statutory requirements. The long term staff will not enrol on MAths and English which she will need to do her level 3. I have offered all kinds of support to get her on the way such as offering her 2 years ago time of to go to basic English and Maths but she has refused. Offered to go college to do MAths and English with her but she refused. She has known for over 6 years that she needs to be qualified to level 3 and I feel it is kind of s…

Life has been very difficult in our setting of late with resignations and now we have a member of staff who has gone of sick and we have no idea when she will be returning (over 6 weeks now), and it is putting so much pressure on the existing staff, they now have so many key work children each that they just can't cope (we had to re-allocate the sick staff members children) and as a result, another person has resigned. Any ideas how we can get a temporary member of staff in to cover sickness at short notice, who can take on key children. The last job we advertised hardly anyone applied and no-one qualified or with any experience who could take on key children. …

We understand that you need to be on the committee to be the Nominated Person now. The committee asked me to join so I could remain the Nominated Person. That meant I had to do a DBS as I had a CRB and needed the mobile bit to do the EY2 form So I did that and it went through but a month later has not turned up yet! Then I started filling in the EY2 form but that changed in May and what I had done and saved (waiting for the DBS to turn up!) was lost Then I tried the new EY2 form and it says as a member of staff I might have to do a Health Booklet which cost us £100 when I did one to take over as manager and that was most of 10 years ago so what will that cost now?!! …
