I was speaking to two ex-employees who have moved onto another setting and they were querying their paid holidays. They have both worked five days per week for the last school year except for a few odd half days off and received four weeks holiday pay - one at Christmas, another at Easter and two at summer break but thought they were due more? They spoke to the manager who said this is what everyone has always been paid. Is this correct does anyone know? One is now working three and half days and the other two days due to changes in circumstances so how will their wages work out, can anyone help with this please? Thank you. xx

Can a childminder have 3 assistants working for the maximum of 2 hours a day if required? If the childminder needs a break for example, or to sort out paperwork etc? I work with 2 assistants at a time every day. If a childminder employs an assistant or works with another childminder, each childminder (or assistant) may care for the number of children permitted by the ratios specified in sections 3.44 of the EYFS Statutory Framework, subject to any restrictions imposed by Ofsted on registration. Children may only be left in the sole care of assistants for no more than two hours in a single day. Childminders must obtain parental permission to leave children with a…

I am looking to grow from a childminder into a small nursery setting. I have an opportunity to hire 2 venues (I only need one). One is a committee run hall - the issue with this comes from the previous preschool renting the space. They told the committee that Ofsted told them that they needed a door in a corridor where the toilets are as the corridor joins 2 halls, to have a set of toilets exclusively for the preschool when they were using the one hall. When the other hall is in use this door will need to be locked. They were in loggerheads with the committee about it. The committee asked the preschool for the documentation or legislation that they needed to do this and t…

We have been thinking lots recently about the things that many children don't have the opportunity to experience and contemplating running clubs at school related to them. Firstly it made me realise just how very lucky I was as a child! Secondly, I'm looking for ideas.... things I have come up with so far include: - board/card games - woodwork - playing recorders - sewing - gardening What other kind of things might you add to this list?

Hi all Just a warning that we have had an interesting potential scam this week. A lady paid an amount of money in to our bank account and then rang to apologise and ask for it back. We contacted our bank as it was apparently from child tax care. We flagged up that we felt it was suspicious ...they agreed. It is now in the hands of the bank but we have had 3 phone conversations and 4 emails regarding us paying it back... The bank are fairly certain it is a fraud.

Hello all! im wearing a different ‘hat’ today, that of Bookings Secretary for our Parish Hall. I’ve been approached by someone wanting to start a preschool, and enquiring about availability, prices etc. I’m just wanting to make sure I’m giving her the right feedback before I respond. She’s planning on running session 9-1. Now, from memory, that suggests to me that she’ll have to be Ofsted registered (more than 2hrs). Is that still the case? And the premises will need to pass their inspection. I assume she will be committee run - not sure why I’m assuming that, just because she’s approached with just her first name I think. So, she will need whateve…

Probably not the right topic area! What phonics do you do and what age do you start? I have someone saying to start in Toddler room (age 2) but i think its a bit young to start it formally. I want to refresh our knowledge and have searched the internet but there's so much, it's confusing! Any guidance gratefully received!

The committee wants to have some bank staff in place as a back up plan. Its been a long time since i had a staff member DBS checked. I just wanted to double check that I am going down the right route. They need to have an enhanced DBS and be signed to the update service. But when I got to the ofsted DBS application this comes up and they don't fit into either category. Any help would be most appreciated as I seem to be going round in circles and don't want to do it incorrectly. Role Guidance Our Ofsted DBS Application portal allows applicants to apply for a DBS check for one of the following ten roles: Childminder …
