In a bit of a panic about sustainabilty from Autumn term as our rent had been increased another 11% from July, making the increase from Junes rental rise and this one a total of nearly £1400 in a year! We currently have a 2 day (session) minimum for children. Some do 6 hours, some 9 and of course some do the 15 and more. One of our children is moving to another area and Mum has told me she looked at several pre-schools and they insist on the 15 hours. I am now considering it, as we lose a lot on funding hours not being used. Do any if you do this? I am trying to weigh up the pros and cons. I know when I insisted on the 2 days, people had to get used to it, bu…

We have a uniform for staff (preschool provided polo shirts & fleece, dark jeans or dark smart trousers, or 3/4 length trousers), & a policy about footwear. We allow any colour shoes, trainers or boots, no more than 1 inch heel, must be closed over toes & fit round the back of the foot. So in summer, mules or flip flops are a no-go, jelly shoes are fine. Various staff are asking about being able to wear flip flops, & it's going to be put to the directors to make the decision. I know I don't like them, I don't think they look professional to parents/carers, visitors or passers by. I also don't think it's fair to say staff can wear them when I…

Was wondering if anyone had any advice as to a good quality outdoor storage? We currently have a tiny wooden shed but it has loads of spiders, holes in the roof etc I want an organised 'shed' or storage of some sort that has shelving on either side with labelled crates by topic etc so that its all easily accessible. Has anyone got any experience.... need an option that will keep resources in good condition... Metal? Plastic? Wooden. TIA

Hi all We are a small setting with only a maximum of 12 children and 2 staff. We are having real difficulty controlling the behaviour of the group, 3 children in particular. There are no special needs that we know of but they require constant attention from an adult else they will scream and cry, completely trash the room, run around with food, running inside and hurting others and general unacceptable behaviour. They seem totally unaware when we ask them to stop. We have tried reward charts, explaining why we don't do ..., sitting them out time but nothing seems to be working! Two of the children are around 30mths and the other is 39 months. Any advice is most welcom…

Do you sign a form whenever a child goes to the toilet to confirm if they had a wee, poo, washed their hands etc We have a daily list of children who have been to the loo, and a comment section. I just wondered if we were being overkill or if this is standard and if required, how long to keep them for as it's creating a LOT of paper!

Our pre-school runs out of a Village Hall. Last year the hall had a major refurb and was extended to accomodate the community centre. This was 6 months of major disruption for us. Two weeks after all the construction was done, a grand opening etc, we received a rent increase of just under 60%. I was very angry to say the least and I challenged it and it was reduced to 32%. Still a massive increase I thought. On Tuesday, I received a letter increasing our rent another 11%! This is a 43% increase in a year equating to nearly £1500. I know our rent is reasonable, but we are a rural village hall and how can this be justified? I think we are being made to s…

NDNA announced today that 30 nurseries in York have pulled out of the pilot for 30hrs 'free' funding. Apparently the government offered just £3.95ph for the additional 15 hours being offered.

How does everyone keep up with their letters and contracts for staff. I am finding it increasingly more difficult to compile and make sure I am up to date with current regulations. We have a lady going on maternity leave soon, change of hours lettter, maternity cover lettters contract changes etc etc. Do people out source this or just google for inspiration. It seems most letter templates downloaded off the internet you need to pay a susbrciption for to access.
