Just out of interest how do you ensure effective staff practice across your setting. I had wondered about putting together some standards for staff to have to work on and towards. I suppose a bit like teaching standards? What do you do? ?

As our setting gets larger, I have found that it has become difficult to manage the communication between staff and myself. Either they ask me everything or they don't bother to tell me things I needed to know. There is absolutely no question that I would be left to pick up the pieces if they had done something wrong! How do other managers deal with this? Do you expect to know everything? If so how do you communicate that to staff? What do you do if important information is not passed on to you?

Does anyone know what happens if your Supervisor leaves, and you are unable to find a replacement? How long can you remain open? We've never been in this situation of having to replace the supervisor before and it's looking likely that she will have worked her notice before we have anyone new in as there have been no appliccations. Feeling very stressed. Are there any particularly good paces to advertise a role? We have other jobs advertised and have interest in those, but no-one wants to take on the supervisor role.

Can anyone recommend a quiet hand drier that they have in use . I have seen one that looks like a dragon but don't want to invest as I need at least two of them. I run a preschool with a max of 34 children a day and currently use paper hand towels which don't seem the most effective in money, waste and drying ability!. Any other ideas are welcome. thanks Sam

I am a manager of a preschool and out of school club and have been for two years, with a team of 11 who all apart from two are completely new. It has been two years of probably the worst situation and job role I have ever been involved in and led. Two chairs, three deputies, disciplinaries to deal with, management overhaul, paperwork, policies and procedures to re-re-write, contracts, job descriptions and recruitment to re-write and resolve! Then in nov last year, we were given requires improvement and it is now a constant battle of improving our management structure -directors, improving supervision, planning and outcomes for children and I am exhausted and have n…

Well, four weeks from today, I shall no longer have the burden responsibility of being manager of a setting :1b I have applied for and been offered a job as a playworker in a Preschool and I cannot wait to not have to spend twice as long working at home as I do at work in my current preschool! I am very sad to be leaving, as I love my job, my children, families and team, but after several unsuccessful attempts at trying to get my committee to understand my workload and that it's impossible, I have thrown in the towel

Just need a little vent!!! Honestly if I hear stop running! one more time I may crack up, also staff walking about outdoors with their hands in their pockets policing the children! here's a crazy idea why not engage in something meaningful with the children! I'm on the verge of asking some staff if they even like children or if maybe a different career would suit them feeling like a rubbish deputy manager ooer

Dear everyone or anyone. I'm looking to introduce tapestry in my preschool setting and wanted some advice. We are a small setting and I have a team of 8 staff including myself as a key person. As we are a committee run preschool I want to put a proposal together so I can move forward with my ideas. But of course I'm one to plan and over analyse all outcome scenarios!! Can you recommend the tablet devices you purchased. We can't afford Ipads as the last manager left me with a deficit on budget expenses so I'm going to request some funds from our reserve pot. How many did you initially purchase I'm thinking maybe 3 as at present we actually only have 1 camera b…
