Hello, I have always sent my kitchen staff on full Food Hygiene training via the local authority, but see that 'EduCare' do an online course for half the price - does anyone use this? Is it 'acceptable'? Any info on content? Thanks

Hello I've been asked to deliver an information session to parents and committee on the EYFS for about 15 mins. To share how we deliver EYFs etc. Could anyone share a PowerPoint or ideas to start me off. Thanks in advance. (I've not presented before so feeling a bit wobbly about it!)

Hi all, First of all hello to everyone again. I used to be on here under a different name (kathrynmc), but my LA stopped paying the subscription. Anyway, v pleased to have rejoined as I've really missed it! Really, really need some advice. We are starting a governor led on-site pre-school, which is very exciting. However, we are getting conflicting advice as to the staff we need. I have spoken to my LA, the DfE, Ofsted....but no one can give me a definitive answer. We were under the impression that for 3 year olds there needed to be a 1:8 ratio and the manager needed a minimum Level 3 qualification. However, it was pointed out to us that there is a section in t…

Hi We currently take up to 24 children and these include 2 year olds. We ensure we are in ratio by having 4 members of staff. The problems occur when we are offering free-flow to outside as we can not predict where the children will be and if we have for example 6 children outside, including a 2 year old, we need 2 members of staff, this however could leave 18 children inside so they are out of ratio. How do other settings handle this situation?

What strategies do you use when a child has poor attendance? We have no safeguarding concerns, just that some mums prefer to have a morning off to do something with their children rather than them coming to us (how lovely!) I'm just a little concerned that this seems to be an Ofsed focus these days; and I know a lot of our mums choose to stay with us rather than go to school nursery because they still want to have this freedom.

Hi - does anyone know what the process is with Ofsted to extend hours? We currently run 9 till 4 but parents are asking for 8 till half 5. I did contact Ofsted but the unhelpful gentleman on the phone told me that since I was not the nominated person he could not tell me! Also, if we wanted to move from term time hours to all year, would that be the same process or different?

Afternoon all, I am currently trying to get everything organised and into place before I go on maternity leave end of May. However, I must admit I am left feeling completely and utterly baffled by what OFSTED are actually asking for in regards to our Committee. We are a registered charity and have a committee of volunteers in place and have done so for donkeys years. We have received no communication about the update service and EY2s for our committee members. I am doing my ground work and checking with the committee as to whether they have all completed EY2s but my gut is saying they wouldn't have considering how long they have been in post for. I have also…

Dear all, Our nursery is mostly busy term time and am sure a lot of you folks probably are in the same boat as me. Recently, the company's policy became stricter requesting term time staff not to take any holidays during term time and only in exceptional circumstances (medical, sickness etc), they can have a day off. This is because of the pressures it put on the rest of the staff. Yesterday, one of the term time staff came to ask for half a day off before may bank holiday. The reason was that she can leave early to go to her holiday place. I declined the request owing to the above. I explained to her gently that she needs to take holidays outside term-time. Toda…

Hello peeps, I am wondering if you have any arrangement on how to deal with emergencies at the nurseries in out-of-hours (for example, alarm going off). It will be useful to know especially if the big chain operators manage this. Is the manager or regional manager responsible for attending the nursery in case of emergencies like this?
