Ok having recently dealt with a child with a fractured wrist now another possible incident! A member of staff taking circle time at just before lunch has tapped a child on the bottom to get their attention after they've kicked another child and not listened to adult asking them to sit down. The child in question has a very short attention span and often fidgets and moves about at circle time so we do keep it short. However today the child kicked another child and had their back to the adult not listening, so the adult tapped them on the bottom and asked them to turn around and sit down which they did. Would you be concerned/act further with this? The child was fine and …

Chairman

Our chairman has been with us for 9 years, and is very happy to continue with us as long as the Pre School need him, no parent in that 9 years has ever wanted to step up to chairman let alone any of the other roles! However our 2010 constitution states that no one can be on the committee for more than ten years. Has anyone else had experience of this and managed to work around it? Or will he definitely have to leave? He is without doubt one of the best we have ever had, so it will be a sad day for the pre school if he has to step down, and even more annoying that it imeouldnt be his choice to! Any advice would be gratefully received x

I have just had an e-mail from Internetkit to say they have ceased trading. They are offering a discount with another company but I want to shop around. I paid about £100 in August but this is non refundable- very annoying even more annoying that I have lost everything that I have put on there. Never mind I can download all again , just going to take a bit of time.Does anyone know of a reasonable one. Thanks

Last week a member of staff did'nt deal with a behaviou issue in a sensitive way. Wont bore you with the detail but I have noticed she seemed 'irritated' by children not 'listening' to her. So speaking to my Manager about her addressing this i found out that she is working long hours four days a week. I knew she helped out at the after school club as well as doing 25 hours for me- but was shocked to hear she 'works' four, ELEVEN hour days!!! So at my setting 8am - 1pm then home to housework and prep evening meal for family of 4 then OOSC 3 - 7pm getting home about 7.30!! So no wonder shes 'snappy'! Now I know her home situ and she has 'no money worries' - well …

Hello everyone, we are a pack away preschool, we have children on role that are between 2-5 years. We have just had new flooring and a canopy fitted and we have just been given permission to have resources put on the fence. Our garden is quite small so we would like to make use of this space appropriately. I am trying to get some ideas on what resources we should have made. Currently we have two definite ideas, the first being guttering on slopes and a water collector at the bottom, the other thing is different size padlocks and door handles on some wood for the children to find the keys to unlock the padlocks. These will be fixed securely to the fence or shed so t…

HELP.....I have a new member of staff starting in a few weeks who has proudly told me she's started her own DBS check with a company called DBS Direct, we use capita, I've never known anyone do their own rather than for the organisation, can you tell me if this is ok providing it's registered with update service so that I can check it that way (providing she's asked for enhanced/childcare workforce), but no idea how her ID will be checked with this company, does anyone use them ? Thanks

I recently started a new job in a new Pre-School which i love :-). i found a couple of weeks ago my reference that is in my file from my old boss and its awful and all lies. My old boss was a bully and was really not a nice person. Lots of parents had left the setting during the time i was there due to her unprofessionalism and her rudeness to them. She would call parents in if there had a concern and tell them that there wrong. she treated children differently and one child she was horrible to because she did not like her mum. she use to discriminate against me because my writing is not great and spelling is not great. The reason im writing on here is because my new boss…

Just had an answer from Ofsted to my question about completing their new registration spreadsheet thingy. My question was that I am the nominated person for one of our registrations but not the other. They have clarified but added that any nominated person must be a director if its a company. Knew about the changes to the committee and nominated persons (doesn't effect us) but had not seen this before. Those of you that are nominated persons for a company beware, you can't be unless you're a director!

Course Title: Teaching Assistant - Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Certificate OCR Level 2 I have an applicant with this qualification - obviously more geared to schools rather than pre-schools, but is a level 2, a level 2 in any language???? Initial thoughts are, never employed a level 2 before, so no real idea of what their course content would be if for early years. This person has been volunteering at primary level 4-7 year olds.
