Any advice will be gratefully received. When a new child joins the setting ( full time nursery) and the parent has completed the starting points achieved at home how do other settings evaluate this to be able to link in with their work.

I own and manage a full day care nursery. We have three rooms and 44 children at a time, with about 110 on role In January last year, in the space of a week, three full time members of staff told me they were pregnant, two from one room and one from another. By March a fourth one was pregnant and by June a fifth. Some part time staff took on full time roles to cover maternity leave and I have also recruited new staff with great difficulty. I now have four members of staff on maternity leave, including my deputy manager, and the fifth one will be finishing soon. One room has had a complete change of staff in the past year. When we returned after the Christma…

I would really appreciate your thoughts on my dilemma - I recently contacted our Children's Services Dept expressing my concern about a child in my care - the family had had previous dealings with Children's services. They did not appear interested so I thought it was the end of the matter until the parent came storming into my office - screaming at me that she had had a call from a social worker saying 'the nursery had reported her to children's services'. I rang the social worker to express my concern at being named and she said anyone who reports to CS should be prepared to take 'ownership' of their concerns. I agree and would have been happy to 'take ownership' should…

Please could someone clarify for me how you have included the new Starting Point advice and referral system in their procedures and practice. I have been told conflicting advice. Is starting point for us to phone if we have a minor safeguarding query or SEN query over a child? From my understanding we are to 'go through" starting point for a referral? County told me that we now phone Starting point instead of CALL Derbyshire but Starting point said we are still to phone Call Derbyshire if it's high risk. I'm so confused!!! The more I look into it the worse it gets! Where on earth does Local Authority Designated Officer come in?! Please help, I am nearly bald!!! Th…

Hi We are reviewing our procedures for new starters and wondered what you do? We had thought of gaining parents input by using the what to expect when and go through the age band with parents? I just wondered how you induct new families? Thanks

Morning, I've noticed that some other settings in our local area only offer morning or afternoon sessions to their funded and non funded 2 year olds. My question is our preschool does offer the option for parents to choose for their children to stay all day. However, are we able to state that we do not offer this option to our 2 year old children? People may not agree with me but I think a 6.5 hour day is too long for our 2yr olds and as we are a preschool there are limited facilities for children who fall asleep which is what we have found with many of our little ones. I just wasn't sure where we stood on having a policy in place that states we can't accept 2yr o…

We need to update our computer which is really ole and therefore hardly used. What do other people use in their nursery (pre-school really)? Laptops, desktops, tablets with touch-screen??? I am a little bit anti-screens at this age, however, I recognise that we have a requirement to provide something. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi all! Just after a bit of advice really.... We have had several cases of the dreaded S&D over the past wek and today i have 5 children off with it and have sent 2 further children home because of vomitting in the setting. I'm just after advice as to what can be done... I'm sending a letter home with children today to inform parents of how long they need to stay off (as im pretty sure alot of the children are coming back before they really should be!) but is there anything else i need to do? I have contacted infection control and am waiting for a call back with regards to having a 'deep clean' here in the setting.... Mnay thanks everyone!

Help I need an answer to a question quickly! Am I right in saying within the welfare requirements that if 1 level 3, 1 level 2 and one unqualified staff member were working, this would be illegal? Situation beyond my control coming up on Wednesday morning but think I am going to have to close. Please respond quickly. Thank you!!
