I manage a day nursery and am looking to see how other nurseries cover the nursery day staffing wise. We are open 8-6. What hours do your staff work - shift patterns etc? Do you have a chef or cleaner and what hours do they work? Also what hours and jobs do your apprentices do? Thanks Hannah

We have recently had an unpaid volunteer start helping at the pre-school on occasion when she is able and I wondered if she has to complete a PPP as she isn't a member of staff? We've never had anyone be kind enough to volunteer before, so a bit unsure! Thanks

At the nursery I own we currently have a manager and an admin person. I think that we are office heavy and that many of the admin tasks can, and indeed should be carried out by the nursery manager. Please can you let me know what your responsibilities as nursery managers are? The admin person currently deals with bookings and inputing them onto the system, invoices and invoice queries, funding and headcount, phone enquiries etc. She also deals with staff holidays and puts the staff hours onto a spreadsheet for the accountant. Does this sound like the duties of most nursery managers?? I appreciate your feedback. (I am also involved in the nursery, my role is to plan futu…

Hello, Needing some advice. I'm the new manager (September 2015) of a Preschool setting (Charity Parent Committee run). I recently completed the Ofsted questionnaire and have now this evening received an email to say I have to re-register as a new setting but this is not the case as nothing has changed. I have sorted out a new committee (DBS EY2), myself as manager and nominated person. On the questionnaire I sent I provided a Company number and I know the preschool is also registered with Company's house? So I'm a little confused and am now a bit worried. Any advice would be helpful. I called Ofsted and the person on the phone asked if there had been…

I have had a new family appear this morning, who are Romanian..........and I need some help explaining FE to them. Dad was insistent that they can pay, but I tried explaining it's a universal credit that everyone is entitled to. Does anyone have any info in writing that I can give to the family to explain it properly, please??

What would you say have been the most significant education policies/initiatives that have affected our practice in the early years over the past few years? Sorry its a bit of a big question and one that will have different answers from different educators in different settings. If I were to say this is directed at those in maintained settings would that help? I am just trying to prepare for a possible interview so any help would be appreciated... 'staring at a blank box and not knowing where to start stage'!

We are a pre-school setting and work with children from two and a half. I currently have four staff members. I have said it before but if anything is done in the setting, it is because I do it. I try so hard to get everybody on board with all aspects of our work, but it is like flogging a dead horse. They just seem to want to do the bare minimum and that's it. I have now taken on all the admin as my amazing administrator has gone back to her "proper job". So I know find myself as: Manager, key person to 11 children, SENCO, admin and all the other paperwork such as:policies, SEF, supervisions/appraisals etc etc. As well as all the day to day communications and being in …

Sharing info with other settings

Hi Well I have quite a few children that only do 1 session per week with us but go to another day nursery. I always try to make connections with the other nurseries (generally email) and get so far but then dont actually receive any info from them. I do then feel like not sharing the info that I have on the child as its not fair (stomps feet/throws tantrum)!! I have sent info through twice about one child and never even had acknowledgment. What things are you sharing with other settings and what format does it take? I would like something that is easy and quick. Do you share next steps or just development levels. If I had any real concerns then I would be speaking to…

4 visits in 3 years is beyond a joke!!! On the positive the staff and myself are now so used to Ofsted visiting we are all relatively relaxed! We received another visit yesterday - my fault as I said at the staff meeting last week 'it has been too long for Ofsted to visit re the complaint in July' - I had to eat my words when the doorbell went yesterday! Fortunately we had a lovely inspector who was very thorough but fair - Prevent, Safeguarding and how we link assessments to next steps and then planning were prime areas of questioning. She said the visit was unannounced due to the complaint in July although it was never mentioned again. She did look at our Complaints …
