Am I the only one who has problems recruiting staff! I have heard other settings say they have had trouble getting good level 3s but I would have thought I might have had more joy recruiting a senior as you don't see senior positions come up very often! Up until now I have been very lucky my staff have stayed with me a long time but they are starting to move on, So I am pretty new to advertising it seems most of it is done online now Ive tried Friday Ad and Indeed Does anyone use agencies? Is that the way to go now?

We have quite a large outdoor area but it is mainly grass. This time last year the ground was hard but with the mild weather it's like an oil slick with the mud. The children have been slipping and sliding and I actually think it's a bit too dangerous to continue playing out there if it's going to be like this. We have a courtyard at the front which isn't ideal because it's small, there is a large ramp and stairs and a old adult sized pub-style garden table with benches. I'm thinking we could use this instead and offer free flow (which we currently can't) with four to six children. I need some ideas and a quick internet trawl has not given me much inspiration, does …

Can anyone clarify if a DBS is transferable ? We have a parent who wants to volunteer (qualified teacher) and she brought me her DBS which I happily accepted but I am now doubting my failing memory and would hate to fail an inspection because I got it wrong.

I have a member of staff who supports a child with additional needs as well as being key person to 6 others. The child does not need one to one but has a plan for activities to be carried out to support her development so this member of staff has to plan, resource, carry out and monitor this. We have just received some funding to support this child so I want to recognise this member of staff's extra responsibility and workload by paying her more. She knows that this is only for when the child is with us but I'm not sure how to go about it. Do I increase her hourly rate, or just have a set amount paid as a special responsibility payment weekly? Does it have to be includ…

Dear all, We have had 2 parents coming up to us telling us that the nearby school (who have early years provision) informed that their children will get automatic place in the school at reception age if they bring their children to their provision. This in my opinion is foul play and misleading parents that the school decides whether the children get into the school or not. I spoke to the headmaster and he brushed it off saying that they have had to deal with competition from other school opening by. He didn't clearly state that they are using the scare tactic but seemed like he was insinuating that they do resort to it due to "government pressures". Please can someone…

HI all I am hoping that I can ask this question clearly as I seem to be confusing everyone including myself. Ok so we are still 'lucky' enough to be able to shut for four training days a year. However we don't all need the same training. So I suggested that we all do the training we need and then we would get paid on the days we shut rather than at the time, this worked well for some time. At the time a lot of the training was in the evening on days staff didn't work so all quite straight forward. Now however more training is full day and on days they would normally work. So if I say right that day you will not get paid for now you will get paid it on one of…
