Quite new tto this posting lark! We are a pre-school that has been free flowing between the indoors and outdoors for a few years just lately the staff insist on closing the doors and saying it's inside time arghhh so frustrated anybody got any advice on how to tackle this? also our staff seem very sensitive and the mere mention of anything usually results in tears or shouting!

Hi I am just wondering what other preschools do about their COSHH reports. We have them for all cleaning products etc and anything with the orange triangle on but do we need it for the paints and glue? I have managed to find discussions about this on here but it was dated 2009 so wondered what the updated requirement was? TIA Andrea

This afternoon a child in my setting became unwell, she was tired so had a little nap, woke and went to the toilet and then lay down again but said her head hurt. It was 10 mins from collection time so I didn't call Mum and Nan picked her up and I explained what had happened. Mum phoned me 45 mins later saying they were going to Drs and she just wanted to check what had happened. She rang again an hour later to say they were on route to hospital query meningitis. Mum is going to keep me updated but has anyone had experience of a case of meningitis as I am not sure what if anything I should do regarding the children and staff who have been in contact with the child.

I just need to get this off my chest... We have had a boy (and his twin brother) with us since September 2014 and have done all we can with zero funding to support his additional needs (eventually diagnosed with ASD this summer). We FINAL have some additional funding, and I have recruited an additional member of staff so we can give him 1:1 time every day, as recommended by our inclusion team - she started today then this evening I get an email to tell me... They're leaving us on Friday to go to another setting. Apart from being very annoyed, especially at the lack of information and notice, I'm really going to miss them! Anyway, just needed to ve…

If I was going to collect children from a local school, to bring straight to my setting, is it enough to have fully comprehensive insurance, and a full, clean licence; or would I need additional insurance?

Hello all, I am not sure but we seem to be a bit quite this term and the spring term next year. We were extremely busy last year and hence we had hired one extra staff. I hope things pick up otherwise i am concerned that the owner might make some changes. Two years ago we experienced similar occupancy levels, am hoping this year is just a blip ..

I have a child whose mum has given me one months notice as she is changing jobs and it's easier for her child to go elsewhere. The child is in receipt of FE ( 15 hours, taken as 10.5 each week)...........I will have to let county know that there is a change, as he will claim the hours at the new setting. He attends our setting for 18 hours per week usually BUT, the child was absent yesterday and breezed in this morning announcing that he started at his new setting yesterday. So, how the heck do i work out who is claiming what?? I am not sure where i stand on this.....IF she is already claiming the FE at his new setting, do I charge her for his absence at mine?? he officia…
