The FSF and Tapestry recorded a couple of podcasts with two guests talking about being men in childcare - they are well worth a listen. Here is one with super manny Joss Cambridge-Simmons talking about challenging male stereotypes and putting love at the centre of your practice. And here is another, with Jamel Carly-Campbell. Jamel talks about the importance of having mentors, what needs to change to encourage more black men into the sector and the impact early years educators have on the children they work with. Thank you to both Joss and Jamel for joining us!

Our outdoor area is a large tarmac area. Our current everyday provision outside includes, large sit in sand pit area, sand kitchen, slide, climbing A frame and ladders, hollow blocks, balance bikes and ride on toys. Our playground is completely open to the Cornish elements and has no shelter. I feel as we are spending more and more time outside that we need more activities/resources available. I am applying for a grant and am interested in finding out what you have and what works well in your provision. Please bombard me with ideas.

So a member of my committee is now starting work for us as an assistant, I know her committee DBS will not cover her but she has an enhanced DBS as a school governor and is signed to the update service. Is this sufficient to use as a staff members DBS?

Happy that her setting would be in good hands but unable to come up with a sensible ' for sale price'....... Packaway setting that has served the village for 30years - and kept afloat ( has had a few worrying years, but who hasn't)? Great staff team ready to go! average Gross £50,000pa Her profit/wage approx 12-14,000pa Any ideas??? ..

At our setting, we would really like to move from paper to electronic for our registers. Does anybody have any suggestions of any programs to use or do you have any advice how to do this please?

Hello everyone Just looking for a bit of advice. Pre - covid we didn't allow hot drinks in the rooms , ratios allowing staff could nip to the staff room for a hot drink. Now however (we are still working in bubbles and usually on ratio) with the cold weather upon us, freeflow to the outside and windows remaining open the staff are asking if we will allow them to have hot drinks in the room, in a suitable lidded cup. I just wondered how the rest you deal with this. Debbie

I was wondering what everyone will be doing about heating their buildings this autumn while we are dealing with Covid-19. We are in a small hut with only fan heaters, high on the wall, which encourage germs to circulate everywhere. We have no gas supplied to the hut. Does anyone have any knowledge of infra red heaters or any other form of heating we might use or how effective they are? We don't have much of a budget to devote to this, but with the weather getting colder we will need to sort something soon. I just wondered what everyone else was doing.

We have a free website run through BT for community groups etc which we have had for years and use regularly...today I get an email telling me they are going to archive it because we arent using it and there is no telephone number, the email return is a "no reply" addie so it just pings back and the "help tickets online system" isnt working presumably because its crashed with others in the same position.....has anyone on here got one of these btck.co.uk websites and had the same thing today? Im at my wits end.

Good afternoon We have 2 members of staff about to embark on their Level 2 and Level 3 courses respectively, we as a setting have agreed to fund half of each staff members cost of the course with the staff member paying the other half, have been told i need to put in place an agreement/contract between the pre-school and staff members that in effect say that if they leave the course then they are liable to return all monies we have paid out and that they need to stay on for a period of time if they pass the course, we have already spoken to our staff about this and they are happy for it to be put in writing, but at the moment am having a bit of a writers bloc…
