Writing their name......

I underwent some training this year on CL and part was about children writing their name. I was told that children should not attempt to write their name until they can recognize it. Iam having trouble getting staff to understand this ( or maybe she is just being awkward). She thinks they should start at 2 and a half to 3 but I am saying not until they can recognize it.....What does anyone else think???

Hi. I am the Owner/Manager at a relatively new setting which opened January. I am looking for some sort of software to help with books, invoicing etc. Is there anything which is reasonably cheap and good that people can recommend? We are a sessional pre-school with around 20 children per session and 5 staff so nothing too complicated required. Kent used to have a Superfox software system which was free, but am not sure whether this is still available... Thanks peeps

So just how much are you having to put up your hourly/daily rate to help cover the cost of... 3% minimum wage rise this year PLUS 2% compulsory pension PLUS 7% National Living Wage rise next April??? I've think I've done the maths and worked out that to cover just the 7% I need to put up the hourly rate by 19p, so that's an extra £1.90 a day! I can't do that in one hit to the parents, it just wouldn't be fair! What are you doing?

Hello all, l have a issue with a member of staff that have been disruptive all of a sudden blatantly disobeying orders, and not admitting to issues. She was caught using a phone whilst on duty and DM asked her why and she said she was bored laughing, DM informed me and l called her in informed her of disobeying orders and policies. So l gave a first warning letter to be discussed in 7 days time and also giving her the opportunity to bring someone in. She then accused the DM of all sorts and demanding she gets a letter as well because she saw her using a phone which is false. She has been so disgruntled throughout the day, and to cap it all when DM was gi…

I have been focusing on our parents in partnership strengths and was wondering how many settings have a Pre-school home agreement? I have produced a draft, and thinking it might be a good document to have in place, our manager has been looking at local pre-school ofsted reports and one has action points to improve partnership with parents. I have a few ideas but need some feedback on this, thank you in advance.

Hi All, I would be grateful for your thoughts on this matter. My partner was in the area and he had a spare 45mins without a car as it was in the local garage so he thought he would pop in and see me at work. When he arrived I was on my lunch break and was out of the building. So he asked to pop in the room to see his daughter, there was a member of staff in the room at all times and he was never left alone with the children at any point. He then went to sit in the reception area with a member of staff until I arrived, once I arrived he sat with me in the office. Now the owner of the establishment has informed me that this is a safeguarding issue …

We increasingly have parents complaining about how much their children drink with us. We give them drinks in the morning with snack and then they have drinks at lunchtime as well. They also bring in water bottles which are supposed to be free choice things to help encourage independence so we do not force them to use them and some choose not to. Parents look at the water bottles which are sometimes untouched and get angry despite our assurances that their children have been drinking at other times. So does anyone have a parent friendly information pamphlet for us to give out to explain how much children should be drinking? I have checked and it is 1.3 litres through a …

Hi all, Apologies in advance for the long post. So, for the last 4 years I have ran my preschool with myself and one member of staff. During this time the most about of money I have taken is £300 a month and that was 2 years ago. During the summer we moved premises to a more local area. We had 4 children on roll, we are now up to 13 but a lot are only coming for 1 or 2 sessions a week. The business is still running at a loss and we have no money to buy resources, essential supplies or plan nice things for the children (my parents are currently supporting myself and my pre-school). We now also have 2 students. 1 has got her level 2 and is working towards her level 3…
