Hello, I am wondering how are other nurseries dealing with staff holidays during term time and school holidays? We are full year, but mostly very busy in term times. We have both term time and full time staff. Recently, 2 staff went on leave at same time from the same room, leaving the owner of the nursery very unhappy about the situation. She ended up paying a lot of money for overtime to the other staff. As a result, we received a letter with some comments from the owner today of a holiday policy that : - More than 1 staff will not be allowed to take annual leave during term time and will require prior consent from the manager. The managers will check if approp…

Hello all, from January our nursery will be switching from meals cooked onsite to obtaining outsourced meals. Has anyone managed this process and if so, please share their experience? How do the parents feel about this? The meals from the outsourced company (5 star rating) do taste and look very good. The on-site meals are prepared by one of the managers and she loves to cook as her hobby. I think the owner might be trying to remove the responsibility from the manager and make sure the manager is doing what she is being paid for.

Using self employed cleaner?
by Guest- 8 replies

We are looking into the possibility of using a self employed cleaner for two hours every weekend. Problem is, we've no idea how to go about it - I assume an agreement has to be in place? What needs to be in the agreement to confirm that they would be self employed? They'd also need CRB check as we are in purpose built premises, and even though they wouldn't come into contact with children our learning journals and register aren't locked away.

Hi there. I am brand new, so I hope I am in the right place for this topic. I have just been appointed chair for our preschool by our committee Need ur help. My first duty as chair is to dissolve the current situation of joint supervisors! and create 1 supervisor & 1 deputy. This has come as a suggestion from our ofsted representative and agreed by committee that it makes most sense to manage the setting and the finances this way as we have had a tough last 12 months. How on earth do I manage this? My first instinct is to deliver the factual information and then ask the staff to give a solution to committee at next meeting? Both are very qualified and very c…

We had our advisor in today and she told us that it is no longer necessary to have appraisals as long as we are doing supervisions regularly, Has anyone else heard this?

Hi All. I am tearing my hair out trying to up-date our induction process, but am feeling totally at sea as to what should be in there (bar the obvious fire evacuation, safeguarding procedures etc). Does anyone have a format that they are really happy with and that works?? I feel like there's so much that could go in I don't know where to start

Hello All, Just wondering if anyone has a really good system in place to monitor staffs toil? Currently staff record their toil on a sheet that is kept in each room and then go via the room leader or management staff when they wish to take it. Just wondered if anyone has a system in place where they can only take Toil under certain rules and what those rules are. Just looking at a better way of managing this with a large staff team Thanks

Hi Everyone, What does everyone think is a reasonable amount of time per week to allow staff time to do obs (documenting) bearing in mind we use tapestry and activity plannnig for their key children per week? Each key person in my setting has an average of 6 key children (only 1 member of staff has more than this currently) . I only ask for obs which are relevant, concise and if possible with a photo and were currently only open for 3 days a week? I was just wondering what everyone allowed ?
