It's our headcount day today for this term's funding. We always have trouble with getting forms back from parents but this term is worse than ever. We have asked, nagged and threatened that they will have to pay or withdraw their child, but I still don't have all of them back. Excuses are that they forgot, they've lost it, they didn't think it applied to them, they've already filled one in last term so just put it in the recycling etc etc! I have even tried telling parents how much the funding is worth to them this term. I am tempted not to send them out anymore and tell parents they have to fill them in here. Does anyone else do this? If so, do you do it in an …

Hello once again, just hopefully a quick question. Do we now decide within the space that we have how many children we can take in per day? Its just something in the back of my head is telling me that Ofsted have registered us with 20 children but can we go over this is? we have less 2 year olds because they need more space? I am only asking because on a Wednesday we have 20 children but space tells me we can have more because quite a few are 3 year olds. I can ring ofsted to confirm but really don't want to and I know how all of you are so good at answering my questions. Many thanks

Hi all As many of you know, we are a very small setting and have just moved premises. On a Monday morning session we only have 3 children in. There is myself, my deputy and a level 3 student. Currently, I am running the preschool at a loss and taking no money myself from the business. My question is, could I cut my deputies hours and run on a Monday with myself, our student and a parent dbs checked volunteer? Any advice welcome!

Hello again, I feel as if I am always asking for advice and I am not completely sure that I should be asking it here but here goes. A few of our children are toilet trained however some children have issues with the poo side of it and one parent is really pulling her hair out. The child refuses to have a poo unless they are in a nappy. We have helped by giving leaflets and other information from the internet about slowly changing things like flushing the poo from a nappy when child is with you and then encouraging child to have a poo on toilet with nappy on and so on, to show the child there is nothing to worry about. We would like to start up a parent box …

Has anyone used the ikea Trofast storage and successfully added castors! Thinking of using this as a cheaper, quicker way to set up but they would definately need castors and don't want to buy and find they dont fit! Thanks

Hi I'm currently wanting to support all staff to develop their skills and have consistency across the nursery. I wondered if anyone could share any training or ideas they have used to monitor and move practice forward. I also wondered if you use any kind of standards you have devised for practitioners to work towards? Thank you in advance

Not sure if this has already been debated from last years plans to introduce the Promoting of Fundamental British Values into setting from September 2015. I was just wondering how people on this forum feel about this? Just some further information: The Home Secretary Theresa May says "The government will actively seek to actively promote British values" to clamp down on extremism - The Government has defined extremism in the Prevent strategy as: “vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. So as i understand it i presume …

Hi all I have been asked by a student if she can carry out her level 3 college placement with us. I said that would be lovely and have asked that her tutor gives me a call to discuss expectations etc, She then informed me that the tutor has said she likes to have little to do with placements as possible and that students should sort things out themselves. So, my question is what do I need to do as a setting to support this student. Should I insist that I speak to her tutor? What about dbs checks etc? Any advice is most welcome :1b
