Hello all, Just need some professional advice as not sure if I'm being fussy. I have taken over managing a preschool (committee run) and have spent the week organising and clearing etc. However I have realised that the old manager and another member of staff who has also left in July, (they were best friends) has removed all documents relating to their existence at the preschool. Things like contracts / appraisals / letters of resignation, application form copy of certificates etc. are not in the ex staff filing cabinet. The only papers left in total from the two files are:- 1 exit interview, 1 appraisal, both signed safeguarding suitability forms, 1 peer observation. …

Hi, Can anyone share with me how they plan their staffing throughout the day i.e. how many do you have at each stage of the day? Do you have all the children (not including babies) in one room for the first 30 minutes/hour? Do they have breakfast together? Or do they go into their own rooms straight away? Do all the children come together at the end of the day to allow staff to go home? We are expanding our playgroup over the next 12 months or so to offer full day care (7.30am - 6pm) and we need to think about how many staff we are going to need and what type of shift patterns we can offer. At the moment, we all do 8.45/9-3.15 as this fits in perfectly with school dr…

This term we have 8 new children , 2,3 and 4 yr olds . Last week we had the few expected tears and separation anxieties , parents stayed for a short time to help their children settle and staff have been supporting children and parents , all this we always do of course. One little boy ( turned 2 Christmas Eve) arrived on first day , mum informed us that he had been awake since 3 am , took time to settle , very limited language and temper tantrums as well as little interest in any activities . Mum seemed reluctant to stay and support him and on subsequent days he became very distress ed and screamed for most of the session. We decided as a team that mum should be called …

Hello, I am looking for some advice for myself and my employers. I am going to apply for the EYITT in September. Now if successful the setting will receive £7000 to enhance my salary and to cover training and staff costs. What salary expectation should I have???

Hi everyone, September is coming and it means new students. We have had some terrible ones in the past and some great ones. But to cover the terrible ones, I thought maybe we should make a task list for them to complete during their time with us e.g. sit at the snack table, set up for lunch, read a group story, read with one child etc. So it covers tasks for them to complete which may bring out their confidence and also initiative. Can anyone help me add to this task list?

Hi all. Just wondered if anyone else had come across this. I share care with a day nursery of a child. I have the child 2 mornings per week and they have her 2 full days. Mum wants her at my PS to make friends with the children she will go to school with next Sept. On induction day with Mum I explained that we like to share info with other settings eg next steps/development stages and would expect them to do the same with us (ie for childs welfare and development, requirement of EYFS etc). Parent refused to consent for me to do this. I explained that if I had concerns I would of course be speaking to her first before approaching any other professionals eg HV, Area …

Hello, I am looking to apply for a place on an EYITT course in September and was wondering what some of you have done with the £7000 grant given to the settings, how have you enhanced the salary of the person or what has been done with the grant money? Thank you for your help

Hello, Do any of you lovely people know of any websites or training away from your LA around management, assertiveness and improving staff performance? I am struggling with managing our team, we are a very busy setting and I am struggling to fulfil my role as key person and every thing else as well as managing a team. A team of 8, a quarter of them are the 'old team' so hard to engage with. They are very reluctant to improve practice, often do things because I am in the room, not because of the children, will only do minimum requirements, certainly don't do anything extra such as setting up the room, filing art work to help other staff members, sharing inform…

Contracted or Self-employed staff

Hello everyone, I would really like to hear about benefits and disadvantages of having contracted and self-employed staff. I have a member of staff who I am planning to switch from contracted employment to self-employed as I need to cut her hours but was told that HM Revenue might raise their eyebrows. Once she starts as a self-employed from Sep, should she simply invoice me for each month? Do you hold a special register for self-employed practitioners?
