Birmingham Council have proposed that everyone in receipt of funding should, as a condition of that funding, pay all staff the Living Wage. While thats fabulous in theory, this is the result of a survey commissioned by the council after concerns were raised by providers. http://www.nurseryworld.co.uk/nursery-world/news/1152224/living-wage-would-add-thousands-to-weekly-costs-report-finds?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=facebook

3 days on 3 days off

Hi there This is my first post so here goes. Do any of you have children that do 3 different days a week to fit in around shift work? e.g. one week monday, tuesday wednesday following week its shifted a day so tuesday, wednesday, thursday and so on. Have any of you come across this? How is it managed/ charged? Do you charged for a full week as effectively they are taking a full time place, or would you charged for 3 full days a week, even though it could full for 2 days over the weekend? I don't immediately want to say to this family that we can't help them without exploring all possible avenues. Any thoughts greatly received

We have finally convinced the village hall committee that we NEED a digging area but now I'm not sure how to do it to make the most of the area we have. We have to pack EVERYTHING away when we finish each day so the plan is to create a frame, sink it into the ground then have a 'lid' which we can attach with padlocks so it's not trashed by other hirers. I've got hold of a few 'slices' of tree trunk for seating, I thought we could plant herbs etc along one edge of the area so the children could pick them to add into their play but not sure what else to do. I'd love the whole sink/'cooker' etc area but it will just get trashed during parties each weekend. Is anyone els…

Does anyone have an improvement plan format they would be willing to share? We've never done one before but would like to have some key drivers for next year. Thanks

Sorry if this is a repeat question, just wondered how other settings manage places for employees children. Do you charge for the place, if so are the fees reduced, or do most places not allow staff to bring their own children? We're only a small nursery, and I have 3 staff coming off maternity early next year + another 3 staff children already here, and while I don't want to seem mean, we do have to be sustainable Thanks for any help/advice

Hi does anyone have a nice form which they use to review their accident forms? Our one at the moment doesn't really tell me much and I want to make it useful rather than just a box ticking exercise thanks in advance!.

Sorry about this but this is a bit of a rant. I have just been along to the school that most of my children will be moving to in September. The teachers have presented me with a transition sheet they want completed. Just the prime areas. what they want to know they said " if there is anything we need to know about the child such if they are worried by spiders then we won't ask the child to draw a picture of a spider." Now my staff team have had the children for two years gone through battles, celebrations with the children and the families. Spent a lot of time on the learning journey recording and detailing not only their likes and dislikes but their progressi…

Can I ask how much information you should pass onto a school when a child is moving on from any early years provision. Child A had previously been on a CPO. Child A is now on a Child in need plan. This has all been verbally passed onto the school. Teacher has visited setting. Information of SW including contact details has been passed to the class teacher. Senco has visited setting. Senco has sat in on recent child review meeting with multi agency team. Can I ask should any previous paperwork be photocopied and passed on to them from the setting or should this come from their SW. Obviously safeguarding is paramount but unsure of how much past information should b…
