I am looking for a template of some kind that would enable me to keep a diary of what a child has eaten at Pre-school each day. Also, the child uses the toilet to have a wee but poos in her knickers. Her mum says that it happens at home as well and would like me to keep a diary as to when she uses the toilet and when she has accidents. She thinks it may be that its something she has eaten as her stools are rather loose. We have a "nappy/toileting" chart that staff complete daily but that is a large sheet for all children. I was thinking of making a chart up just for this child so that I can just hand it to mum when she picks her up each day. I have advised her to …

I have an ongoing situation at work and could really do with talking through something with someone if possible - there will be no names etc mentioned .... it's complicated and obviously I don't want to go into it on an open forum...... I know the answer really but for piece of mind I would like to run something past someone if at all possible.... does anyone on here have experience of anyone threatening legal action after referring a child? if so could I could really do with asking a couple of questions...... Thank you

I am the eyp in a private nursery-myself and the deputy have equal status but she clearly isn't up to the job. She was off today and I found that she had given spot the difference sheets suitable for junior school children to the toddlers in the 2-3 room, ignoring the planning and resources that were already made for the focus that week This is just the latest in a long line of incompetencies she has displayed but people are too kind to say anything for fear of upsetting her as she holds grudges for ages. The manager is aware of it but doesnt really do anything about it. I am getting really frustrated at having to be the person that clears up everyone else's mess. Ran…

We're struggling to recruit and I need to widen my net... where, in your opinion, would be the best place to advertise a part-time deputy role that will attract decent candidates??? Thanks!

We're advertising for a new member of staff in September and have just had an inquiry from someone who started an apprenticeship scheme with us last year but gave up after less then a term - during her time with us she didn't really settle in, was off 'sick' numerous times and just didn't seem interested in the job. Legally do I have to give her an interview? we have stated we need someone who has worked in a pre-school setting before and has experience as a key person - she says she has been working somewhere and has 1 month's experience as a key person but to be honest I just don't think I even want to interview because she wasn't (to be harsh) any good when she was…

Hi all does anybody have a simple way of recording any observation they do on sessions? and do you do the whole thing (like a mock Ofsted) or do you concentrate on one thing at a time (like interactions or staff deployment) just wondering if I am making life hard for myself again thanks

I currently have my staff access limited to pins so they cannot log on when they are not in the setting. I figured as a safeguarding measure the his would be best but I'm curious what everyone else does and if anyone has any comments from ofsted re this

Im hunting for a better method of hand drying for our preschoolers, we currently used the folded paper towels in a wall dispenser -but they either get stuck in the dispenser so the children cant get them out, or great handfulls come out ( which then end up in the bin!) We are getting through so many its getting silly ! I find myself checking out towel dispensers in public loo's when im out and about -ive even taken photos of ones I thought were good ! we dont want a hand dryer, and as i have no tumble dryer I dont fancy terry towelling - so, what other systems do settings use ?

I have been asked to do Learning Walks in the settings as part of my monitoring. I was wondering if others do this and if you do what do you look for? Does any have a template they use to record down what they saw etc. If anyone has a template are you willing to share? Thank you in advance :-)
