Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice re staffing. We're a new setting (opened in feb) and had a shocker of a week last weekend. We have 4 members of staff (including me) and One member of staff contacted me to let me know that she had aggrevated an exsisting outside of work which has resulted in her being incapacitated long term. She decided that it was best for her health to resign as she would be off for a long period and that long term lifting children etc would only continue to make her knees worse (she tore the ligaments previously) so that left 3! then on the saturday i received a text message from another member of staff…

Hi all We were having a lovely day until 2:20 when we were outside. One of our little 2yr olds (2yrs 8mths) was sat on top of the slide ready to come down on her bottom, I was watching ready to take a pic when she slipped I leapt forward to catch her but wasn't fast enough and she fell sideways off the slide landing on her wrist She screamed for around 10mins whilst we put ice on her wrist, gave her comfort items and gently tried to get her moving the wrist. After this I decided to ring mum as its unusual for this little girl to get so upset over a fall and she was crying when I touched the wrist. Mum asked us to give it another 10 minutes and if not better then …

We currently have a student with us completing her Level 3. They also did their level 2 with us . I will be looking to employ somebody to provide 1 on 1 support for a child joining us in September. I consider them to be an ideal candidate to apply but my question is can they. even though their training isn't finished until November. All thoughts appreciated.

Would you be happy to employ someone in a set up and packaway every day playgroup who has informed you at interview that they have a back problem caused by an injury in another setting?

We have an I.D. password system at preschool which means that no one without the password can collect children from pre-school. Years ago we used to use a collection book to log who as picking up if it was someone other than parents. I found it in the cupboard and was going to bin it but the manager thinks we should still have one even if we don't actually use it......I think that our password system is enough...do we still need the book even though we don't use it? no one ever signs it as all adults collecting know the passwords and we have never had a problem with that. Advice will be greatly received x the recycling bin is calling! B)

I am recruiting at the moment and interviwed an applicant who disclosed they had Rheumatoid arthritis but stated that it would not affect their ability to work. I know nothing about this condition. Has anybody had experience of employing someone in early years setting with this condition? We all know what the job entails, physical and stress and we are a packaway setting too.

Hello! We are currently in the process of potentially changing our registration to childcare on domestic premises. I have looked everywhere but can’t seem to find out whether or not you need to have a ‘Named Deputy’ or would just a manager be acceptable? Thanks in advance!
