can you become a manager of a pre-school as soon as you are qualified if you worked in the setting for 2 years before and during the course or is it 2 years post qualification experience??

Could someone tell me if existing staff need to have DBS done if they still have the traditional CRB. I asked my early years advisor who didn't think I needed to update. I also contacted Ofsted who said they are not able to advise. Bit worried we will be pulled up on this. Thanks

I have a member of staff who just does not comprehend 2 year olds regarding their ages & stages of development. I have put lots of support in place, yet her expectations still remain far too high. She is from another country where I think strictness and expectations may be part of her cultural background. (I don't mean to have a judgement but from what she has said, leads me to believe this.) Despite putting lots of things in place for support/learning, she still talks inappropriately to children, such as saying 'your bad behaviour'.... Or 'stop it, I said stop it now.' I have done supervisions. Other staff members feeling uncomfortable. Wondering what my…

Hi Everyone, Can anyone help as we do not have a risk assessment in place for us to go out and about and I am very eager to put one in place. I have risk assessments in place for other things but just unsure how much information to put in on this, Can anyone show me examples of theirs so that I have an idea, obviously I have my own template Risk assessment but just don't know where to start, any help would be gratefully received and I know that I will need to do my own because where I want to take our children wont be the same as every one elses. I have in my mind things like Staff ratio naming staff and children they will be responsible for First aid kit Telepho…

Good morning you lovely lot I need help please. Our manager is new (September) and as I am yet to do her appraisal I need some questions I can ask the staff to get an overview of how they feel she's doing. Its a small team of 5 in a church hall. Previous manager still works there part time, job sharing with the 5th staff member. I dont go in very often so need to know the kind of things I'm looking for.

I'm the manager of an 84 place setting, we're now in the summer term and our wage bill is 65% of our turnover, so today I had one pregnant staff member get signed off for a 5th week in a row and the staff member I brought in to cover her tell me 'I'm pregnant but might not have it but I cant decide so might get signed off for 8 weeks so I can decide',, I know all about employment law so I will comply completely but this will mean bringing another staff member in, so our wage bill will raise to 69%, this makes us financially unsustainable as we will be paying sick pay and cover, I know no one can give me the answer but I just need to vent,, I am going out of my mind!! xx

Hi, I am currently in the process of setting up a new setting (pvi) and am a little confused as to how holiday pay works with staff. We are looking to employ staff for term time ie 38 weeks a year. We will be running a holiday club but intend to run this ourselves or offer it as overtime. Does anyone have any experience of this - what staff are entitled to and what (if any) we have to pay as don't want to fall foul of the rules right at the start ??? Many thanks
