Hi I have just received the childcare annual fee invoice from Ofsted. There is also a form enclosed to be completed about any changes. I am on non domestic premises and have had a new member of staff (not manager) start in September of last year. Do I have to notify them of any new staff? I haven't done his before. V

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of seeds that are poisonous or can point me in the right direction? I want to do a seed collage with my little ones but do not want to poison them!

Hi all We are having a real problem at the moment trying to engage the 2 boys we have at our setting. Nothing that we put out or plan seems to engage them. They are both in the same 2 days each week and on those days the whole room is manic. They will mess up other children's games, run around, shouting. We have tried asking them what they want out to play with but after 5 minutes they are gone again! We have also tried planning lots for their interests but that hasn't worked either. Between them since xmas they have 5 observations!! We have had both these boys for over a year now and they have never been an issue. Its since just before half term. We only have 10 child…

Hi Having a hard time on a couple of fronts. We have assessed a couple of children who have come to us from diff day nursery's. They have both given parents reports stating they are both 40-60m (not said starting, develop etc). We believe they are more developing 30-50m and this is agreed by the school which they attend in the afternoons and who we are attached to. I can see problems arising when we have parents eve and send out reports. When you send out reports do you actually state to parents where they are in their development?. My school doesnt report them to parents for this very reason but am i right in thinking as a preschool we have to? I am not concerned abou…

Please could you tell me what you think about a head teacher sharing the details of a reference I had written with a candidate she was interviewing for a TA post? I have really upset a member of my staff who is leaving by grading her 'satisfactory' for one aspect out of 15. All the rest were 'good' or 'excellent'. I was taken aback when she approached me about it as I did not think it was normal practice to reveal details of a reference with an interviewee. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Hello all we are about to begin the process of redesigning our Nursery main room and I wanted to ask for your help. Currently we have four family group areas (1:13 ratio in each) - we are a 52 PT Nursery class in an Infant school. These areas are where we have our daily gatherings and group activities and then after this time the children go off and choose where they want to play/learn. These areas then are not really used until children gather back together. Part of our redesign is to 'claim back' these areas for the children to use more of the time. We have been inspired by Huddersfield Early Excellence and Community Playthings and this is the route we shall probably…

Please can anyone share with me what your late collection fees are. We had a situation today when a parent was 45 minutes late!! And the excuse...I didn't realise the time!! Our current charge of £5 in this situation is laughable as the cost of two staff for this extra time is almost £16. Please can you share what you charge. I want to take this to our committee meeting next week to discuss. Thank you. :1b

Hello again! Long Post on the approach! Sorry in advance. We have been on quite a journey over the last few months in regards to the changes we have made and what has been happening on the business side of things (getting more children). We have been through more horrific staff changes, long term illness of a key member of staff etc. But we seem to have come out the other side of it. We now have a full staff team, everyone is generally happy, children are progressing, paperwork is sorted and flowing well, parents are happy, we have more children. Everything should be rosy. We are now waiting for Ofsted to return and make their judgement and we have to get off this requi…
