Just a query into how other managers manage staff time off requests. (Mainly for full-year settings as I know term time only works differently). Apart from holiday entitlement, what other absences do you grant? We have always been very flexible (too flexible in my opinion) but I feel staff are beginning to take the mick now. For example, do you grant time off for appointments, interviews, funerals (not family), last minute half day requests etc...? thank you ladies - I am feeling overwhelmed with other people's problems.....

Hi. I was wondering if you know how long I should keep Childrens registration forms (before they start - all information about them , the family, etc), parents declaration forms for Free Entitlement, permission granted from parents forms to go on trips out, FIRST team communication letters, Child Protection minutes and daily registers. I really have to de clutter and start shredding as the filing cabinets are full now and I don't want to buy any more!!! Obviously I don't want to get rid of things that I shouldn't - so please can anyone let me know what they do. Thanks in advance V

Can anyone direct me to a site that they have found successful for making a visual timetable please? We have a child that can say one or two words but we are sure he doesn't understand. We use simple 1/2 word sentences to him and wait for a response but he still doesn't respond in any way. We play alongside modelling play and speech. He was 3 a week ago. His interests are vehicles - anything with wheels. We have lots of ideas and use different strategies using his interest in wheels. We encourage him to take cars to the playdough, paint etc to make marks and tracks, but he doesn't stay there for long. He wants the vehicles on the floor - lining them up and watching the w…

LIVING WAGE SUREY / PVI SUPPORT

I was just wondering how many Birmingham settings have completed the KPMG survey commissioned by Birmingham City Council about seeing if we can 'afford' to pay the Living Wage - which of course we cannot. I am seriously concerned and worry that other setting providers aren't getting the severity of the issue given that the PVI Support Group only have about 130 settings signed up to them when there are something like 3000 providers in Birmingham (may be a bit out there). The form was a complete nightmare as it didn't follow how accounts are set out so I had to work things out manually amongst other things. However what I did work out is that I will have to pay an addit…

Hi, I'm not sure I'm posting in the correct place but I have a question re CIL particularly in FS1. I was wondering what people do regarding the children planning what they would like to do? Do you run a 'plan, do, review' session - thinking of children 3+? I'm new to Nursery so just trying to get my head around it all. Thank you in advance. MC

Did anyone watch the shocking programme on channel 4 last night. If you didn't it was the amount of rotten teeth that the NHS have to remove from preschool children that was the most shocking. I would really like to make a display around brushing teeth and avoiding sugary drinks. Does anyone know where I can get any posters / leaflets / other material to support this?

We have been looking at nursery management software but have found it amazingly expensive and just can justify it within our budget. My partner however has discovered cakechildcare which is a free nursery based management system where you can just buy extras. Has anyone heard or used this? Just keen to gauge peoples experiences as its free!
