We want to set up an ice cream parlour in our role play area for the summer term. Has anyone got any good ideas on what to put in there? What did you use for ice cream, cones etc. Thanks

Hello, Does anyone know of anywhere I can find really good examples of role play areas - ideally with photos to look at? Or information about what should/could be in a good role play area? I've been asked to develop mine and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what constitutes a 'good' role play area. I tend to prefer quite simple things so children can help set them up easily - in fact have set them up and just have my help to make it a little more 'structured'. I also like to be able to change them quickly to respond to interests so am less keen on an epic construction that takes a week or two to put together by which time they'll probably have lost interest anyway!…

I'm working in a mixed year 1/2 class and the current role play is someone lacking. It's an estate agents which I can't alter but I do want to pep it up a bit. At the moment it has almost nothing in it. I have thought of a few obvious things such as a phone, real house leaflets, newspapers with house listings and some writing equipment, however I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas for exciting things to include? I'd like to try and include some sort of challenge for the more able year 2s if possible.

Drama Ideas For Reception
by Guest- 9 replies

Last year my Reception class had a drama teacher for 30 mins each week, this year I have to do it. In the class in relation to books I always do hot seating and act them out. I am trying to work out my drama planning and am thinking of relating it to Nursery Rymes. Does anyone have any ideas relating to this and to warm up games and working collaboratively. I know that my new class are quite challenging. Can you recommend any books to help me with this, thank you.

Just wondered what you all do. We have set up a role play beauty salon this week following the children's interests , we have had nail stickers, painting, body glitter, facials etc. We have also placed plastic combs, scrunchies, and clips and the children have been creating wonderful hairstyles on themselves and the staff( We did have a good laugh this afternoon as one member of staff resembled the girl from gimmee gimmee gimmee!!!.). Can I ask as it has been mentioned to me that we should not be using any hair products as this increases the risk of headlice. the items are dettol srayed at the end of each session. Does anyone else do this activity? or has the worl…

Hi - would anyone be so kind as to share some ideas for including the aspects of calculating that we need to be covering. They are so spedific that I've ended up designing a game specifically for it. This suits some children, but not others, and how often can we play the same game before its just monotonous!!? The aspects are so specific, how do you get it into free play Help - please!! carmen Oh just found a this thread already ongoing - i'll jump on there, although it seems mostly to be a reception topic?

Does anyone know where I can get "reasonably" priced role play panels from or any ideas of anything else I can use! I childmind and would love to have a universal role play corner that will be stury enough for all children to play with/in. I have pop-up tents at the moment but they're not very strong and I have a job putting them up and down and they have specific images which sort of dictate how the little ones play - for example we have a vets surgery pop-up tent and the idea of turning it into a travel agents didn't go down with the children very well so I'm looking for something like they use in schools that I can attach my own signs to and make into any settin…
