Hiya Started today on new role play "space". Had some lovely independent creative work making stars and rockets to go on the walls and I know that there is lots of different areas to explore. However they do not know what to do in there, and some of the girls simply started playing house, using things from around the class! Whilst this is fine and I do encourage independent activities like this, I beleive that the theme "space" will get lots of them excited once they get more involved in it. Understanding Children's Speech

I could do with some advice on a little boy we have at pre-school. He is going to be four in March. He is a bright little boy, with a good vocabulary and understanding. His speech is not always clear however, particularly when he is animated about something . He does not use personal pronouns yet. I have mentioned to mother his that we are trying to 'model' correct use as a way of dealing with this particular aspect of language development. She is not particularly worried. I know it is important to let children develop at their own rate but I don't want to have failed this little boy by not giving him any support he might need. Thank you for any help! Rose

Hello everyone, not long until Christmas. Am just thinking about planning for next term and am a bit stuck! Am doing the topic of 'moving toys' with my reception class, got lots of ideas for activities but a bit stuck on ideas for role play area. The year one teacher is doing a 1950's topic where she looks at old toys and so is having a toyshop as her roleplay, which would have been perfect for my class but we can't have the same apparently! So has anyone got any other ideas?
