Hi everyone I got a year 2 post the other other day but I have taught year 1 for 6 years now so was wondering if any year 2 teachers could offer any advice? What is their timetable like i.e how much spag do they do? How do you organise your day? How have you gathered evidence for Teacher assessment? What do they do to prepare the children for SATs? Many thanks! x

Continuous provision in year 2?
by Guest- 2 replies

Hello I am new to year 2 and am hoping to get advice and tips from those with experience of adopting a continuous provision ethos in a year 2 classroom. At present I am trying an intergrated maths and English morning. I have a TA in the morning so one of us does English focus activities and one of us does maths. When the children are not working with us there are learning challenges for them to complete in different areas of the classroom. I am finding maths learning challenges easier to organise but am struggling with English ones. It would be fantastic to hear from others who are making this approach work successfully and to develop ideas that I can try to implement. A…

Hi there, My colleague is new to KS1 and has a 1/2 class -30 children in a rather small classroom. There is no outdoor area. Can anyone suggest some good resources for child initiated activites/challenges for the children to do when they have finished their tasks. They have construction, a book corner and a role play area, but at the moment, they are very noisy with these and it is hard for the teacher to concentrate on her group. There is some ta help, but not at every session. Are there some good websites out there with ideas? Many thanks

As a school this half term we will be doing a little study of world war 1. There is a wealth of information out there but it is not always suitable for KS1. Anyone used any books that are suitable for KS1? Anyone willing to share the kinds of activities they have done with their class please? Thank you Gretna

Hi was wondering if anyone can help. I am starting a new job after Easter with eyfs year 1 and 2 in same class. At the moment it is v formal with worksheets, books whole class teaching and only 2 areas of continuous provision . I have been teaching a mixed rec and year 1 class for 4 years and never feel like I get the balance right. Has anyone got any planning formats they use, timetables etc of how I can run it but more like an eyfs unit with continuous provision but also cater for year 1 and 2. Any help would be great fully received.

Anyone use curriculum challenges starting with a teacher led question in year 2? Do you find that your children suggest relevant questions or do you have to lead them? Any advice, support suggestions please. Thanks

Seating

I am rearranging my teaching for my year 1/2 class in September. I have a small room and will be having 30 children. To allow for more room for continous provision I am only going to have four group tables, which means I only have chairs for 24. During learning times this is not a problem as the children will be either working with an adult or doing independent learning so do not all need to be able to sit at a table. However I was wondering on what people do when children first come into school in the morning and sending them home. These are the times where I tend to have everyone sat at a table, it helps to manage behaviour as well. Obviously I can't now do this, s…

Hi a strange question but I have been out of KS1 for a while and been in a Nursery school. I have got an interview for a KS1 job and have to teach literacy or maths. I want to make sure I pitching at the right level so what to ensure objectives are well matched to the abilities of the children. Last time I taught in KS1 we were using the primary national frameworks for the objectives and sequence of teaching. is this still the case as I noticed it was now archived? If it isn't the right place to look where might I find the latest? Are the latest objectives etc in the new primary curriculum? Thanks
