How are year 1 classrooms being organised? Its a few months since we debated this, another school year is well underway, what is working for you and why? What have you adapted and developed? Im still battling this one, my current cohort did not come from Reception being able to access anything independently to move their learning on and needed to be working with me to make any movement with their learning--they had knowledge but no skills. It has been tough putting skills into place, they have enjoyed working as a whole class but I now need to stretch and support in a much greater way! I am also essentially working on my own!

Age Appropriate Role Play
by Guest- 3 replies

Hello Am looking for some advice. I am taking over a KS1 class in a speech and language unit soon. Our first topic is 'ourselves' and I am thinking about role play areas. One of the children is remaining in the KS1 class. Although he is chronologically a year 4, his academic progress is more in line with lower KS1. I was thinking of doing a home corner for the role play (as other children in the class would benefit from this) but I am not sure if it is age appropriate for the older child - does it give him enough scope to explore? Does anyone have any feelings on this or bright ideas for something different? Thank you! Natterer x

Hi all, I'm sorry if this a daft question but I am thinking about September already, as being moved to year 2 from foundation stage so big chance. My school has been very QCA led in the past which is just not my cup of tea. I want to continue a creative curriculum much like foundation stage. Just wondered what you put on your long term plan - my school currently have the QCA unit names - should I replace this with objectives from national curriculum or be briefer? Thanks!

I have been shortlisted for interview and have to teach a Year 2 class of very able children a 20 minute lesson of poetry in the school rather than in my own setting. I would be really grateful for any help on this! Has anyone got any great ideas for challenging children in poetry (not sure what type I presume any type), but will only be a short lesson. Also been told that the IWB is promethean (is this much different to smart boards?_ Hope someone can help soon!!!!! Lilactime x
