Hi, in september I am going to be teaching year 2 for 3 hours a week. The whole school is doing the theme of the Olympics - and within that we can cover history/geography. I have never taught year 2 before, and was just looking for some advise re activities. I want to try to do some fun, practical activities as well as lots of work to put into their topic folders. I have a display board, but no role play area, or anything else. I am hoping to pinch a table to make a table top display, but time will tell. Anyway am anxiously awaiting any activity suggestions, Thanks Emily

This evening I've just had a phonecall from a headmistress at a nearby Primary School regarding a job application I sent in yesterday for the position of Teaching Assistant. She has invited me to go in on Friday and work with a class of year 2 pupils between 1pm and 2pm......ahhhh to say I'm scared is an understatement. I currently work as a Registered Childminder so have no idea what will be expected of me on Friday also I'm more confident working with babies to 4yr olds....6 and 7yr olds frighten me lol !!!! I've also been invited for an interview on Monday at 6.15pm - nothing like short notice. I'd really, really appreciate some advice and tips. T…

Hi all, although I'm a reception teacher I thought I would post this here as its more of a query for our year 1s and 2s really. How are you assessing the letters and sounds words? At my school in the past we had to assess the old high frequency words, for both reading and spelling, 3 times a year. Now with letters and sounds the teachers are attempting to assess all of the words in the lists which of course is taking much longer, as they are doing the phonetic and the tricky words... just wondered if anyone would be able to share what they are doing with the assessment, is it something that comes out of the work you are doing anyway, or do you do more of a "test", and w…

Hello We are officially off-curriculum next week but I still want to keep some kind of normality (!) so was thinking about basing the whole week around 'The Polar Express' story, and then perhaps watching it at the end of the week. Does anyone have any creative ideas about activities to do with Year 2 that would keep them halfway sane so close to Christmas! Was thinking about getting out the builders tray and filling with ice cubes and polar creatures, but just wondering if anyone had any other bright ideas that I might not have the energy to think about this weekend?! Thank you!

New Literacy And Numeracy Framework
by Guest- 4 replies

HELP! I am meant to be planning this weekend for Literacy and Numeracy both using the new framework... but I haven't got a clue! We had some training from our advisor about it on Tuesday but it still hasn't made it any clearer in my mind about how we need to plan, and the more I look at the official website the more scrambled my brain feels! Does anyone have any other good websites or tips of their own that might make it a bit clearer perhaps? Please?! Thank you!

Teeth And Eating

Just while I was browsing through the forum topics, mourning the loss of the use of it because I am moving from Year 1 to Year 2 in September I stumbled across this wonderful discussion folder! How pleasing to the eye was that! So just to be even more random, I am starting a new job which was split year groups last year and I'm not entirely sure why but I am teaching some Year 3 Science topics to a Year 2 class, the first one being teeth and eating. I have had in the past, activity sheets for cutting and sticking different types of teeth but have mislaid it... does anybody have any idea where I might find some good teeth resources please? Otherwise will just have…
