All help welcome please - we have a little chap who has complex needs but has been doing really well adjusting to our boundaries with a lot of consistency from staff. Today we hit the sunhat issue - we strictly adhere to 'not hat you don't go outside' and did the same with this little boy - he would not wear a hat (one of ours as parent's had not provided one) so he was guided back inside, when he tried to go out again we tried to persevere with the hat but he wasn't having any of it so he went back inside. I spoke to Dad when he picked up asking them to provide a hat for him and explained what had happened - Mum has since been in contact and asked if she can sign a f…

..that their child won't get an EHC needs assessment or an EHC Plan. I know so many parents whose children have missed out on support at crucial times in their education because someone has told them, inappropriately, not to apply for a statutory/needs assessment. This is from the IPSEA website: "Local Authorities have a clear duty to assess a child or young person’s education, health and care needs where they may have SEN (special educational needs) and they may need special educational provision to be made for them at a level or of a kind which requires an assessment of a child or young person’s education, health and care needs." Note the use of the word 'may'. …

Hi, I am currently looking at what are the common issues relating to SEND as it is experienced within PVI settings. In particular how does SEND impact on PVI settings. practitioners and the children that they support. Based on my findings I am intending to develop and refine an on-line information and professional network which will to support Mangers/SENDCos and practitioners across the country identify and support children presenting with SEND. Ideally the site will support practitioners plan and work towards best possible outcomes for all children (and their parents) in the setting. Please find below a link to my on-line survey – it should take about 10 mi…

Hi wise ones. I am trying to search for a book to support a child who is going to be having complex surgery on his hands in the near future. Not having much luck at the moment. We are going to make a book to share, with items we feel might be beneficial for them. But wondered if anyone knew of a book in publication that might support them too. Any suggestions would be gratefully received, thank you.

Hi, I am an Early Years SEN Advisory Teacher with an MA (SEN) Education. I am currently doing a PhD research project which includes developing and supporting a site for EY practitioners which helps them progress the children in their settings who present with SEN. The site has lots of SEN resources for practitioners and parents via menu tabs and also links to training. Practitioners can also talk to other practitioners who are on line at the same time through the ’chat’ function. There is also a ‘Pinboard’ where practitioners can ask their own questions in order to get individual advice. If you could ‘pin’ a question here to be answered that would be great. It woul…
