Minibeast Hats

Just thought I'd share that I found some fantastic hats in poundland this week. I'm not sure if all poundlands with have them but it's worth a look if you're doing the minibeast theme. I got a ladybird, bee, frog and mouse hats £1 each. They are made out of stiffened felt, they may be a bit big but nothing a bit of elastic can't fix! Can't wait to use them next term they are so cute. I'll try and post a pic later if I can.

Hi everyone, Our 'theme' for the next half term is 'minibeasts/growing'. We are considering having either ladybird larvae or a wormery in the classroom so the children can watch them grow (i'm slightly excited!!!! ). Just wondered whether anyone has already had any living creatures such as ladybirds, caterpillars or worms in their setting? Wanting to know whether it was a success/what you would reccommend? Tinky

Hi all and happy holidays to each and everyone of us okey dokey... need some help. i would like to set up an area in the nursery where the children can explore insects and other tiny creatures. Has anyone got something like this? though of giant african snails and stick insects as a starter. I'd like to know what kind of container they should be kept in and anything else to make this a 'bug world'. I thought about making a camolflage canopy over the top and kitting the area out with magnifying glasses etc. Can you think of anything else i could add. Looking forward to ideas, resources contact firms, dos and don'ts etc. Thankyou in anticipation apple

Hi there, as part of my topic about minibeasts, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good poem about how minibeasts move? we have done alot of work on snails so could do with a poem that mentions how diffferent minibeasts move. I guess I could make my own up but if anyone has already, than would love to see!! I thought the kids could create some group poems to perform with actions to match, use instruments etc. Also whilst I talking about minibeasts, anything with regards to spiders!! cheers guys

Snail Trail By Ruth Browne

Hi there, next term our topic is minibeasts and I was thinking of introducing the topic usign the simple yet effective story, ' A Snails Trail,' b Ruth browne. I was thinking the children could draw or create their own maps of their mini beast hunt and recount the trail to others using first, next, then after ( I have year ones and reception children) Has anyone used this book, made any resources for retelling? I also thought the children could recount the snails journey usign musical instruments??? We are also going to look at the painting 'Snail' by Matisse and tie that in! What do people think??? Any other ideas would be welcome?? thanks
