Hi, I am currently writing my medium term plans - a bit late I know, but have been working on a rough copy up until now. I am an NQT working in a school nursery. I have had a lot of pressure from parents about when I'm going to teach their children to write their name. I have explained that we will be working on the skills they need to develop this later in their education i.e. lots of gross and fine motor skill activities and experimental mark making. I am not sure how much I should be teaching the children about letter formation. I am trying to use the activity ideas in the letters and sounds document e.g. I spy etc. But the previous plans state to use a alphabe…

Hi all Can anyone help - I've been looking through the standards, and may be it's that I can't see for looking, but is there anything about what rest time has to be provided for children of different ages. We currently open for a 3 hour sessions, and so don't have to have a rest area as our children are at least 2 1/2 years old but are looking at extending our hours so that children can attend for 6 hours a day, including a lunch time. Do we have to have a rest area for children staying for this length of time and at what age would this apply. Thank you in advance for your replies SueT

Hi everyone Does anyone have an anti bullying policy regarding staff relationships that i could have a look at. Unfortunately a situation has been brought to my attention today regarding harrassment and victimisation to a member of staff. I am so shocked and disappointed with my team and will begin investigations tomorrow to find out exactly what has been going on. Has anyone had any experience of dealing with this sort of thing or have any advice on how to question all staff members? I am worried about singling out the staff in question and certainly do not want to make the situation any worse than it is. Sorry to be a bit vague, i can't really …

Whistleblowing Policy

Please could someone help me here !!!! Am updating the Op. plan - do I really need a Whistleblowing policy? Have managed to find some on the web. but they are very in depth. They are not always confined to Child Protection either, and I am wondering whether the employer (e.g. Committee) should be the ones writing it (Mind you , they haven't written one yet !!!!!! ) For those of you that have recently had Ofsted, or are doing the Acreditation - did they ask for it? I would be so grateful for any help that anyone could give me here !!!!!! Thanks in advance! Janice

Policies

HI Tommorow i plan to begin the task of sorting the policies out. since we have changed ownership we have been working under the policies of the old nursery, but obviously ofsted require us to have our own. now we can be lazy and simple change the names on the policy, or as the director has done, we can formulate our own. as i say the director has started this but the thing is, her background is a business manager and she has 'lifted' some policies from her work. these are lengthy and very wordy. ie the shortist policy is three pages long and the director has stuff in it such as: : Policy summery : who owns the policy, : who is responsible for the policy, : li…
