Just wondered if anyone out there knows where I can get information relating to drawing up a environmental policy. Our setting is currently going for Healthy Childcare status and along with lots of other new ideas we have invested in a compost bin and are keen to promote looking after the environment with our children. would be interested to hear from anyone who has done one already? thanks

Protection Of Staff From Children !

Hi, Not quite sure what title would be approriate for this one. I have had a new child started who is 3yrs nearly 4yrs and is a big girl. Not in weight but in height and she is solid. Problem I have is that her mother took her away from her other pre school and she led me to believe that the other pre school had no line in discipline and let her daughter run wild. They kept phoning her up from work to collect her child as she had been "naughty". Mini alarm bells rang but I felt for the child. The other pre school had obviously labelled her as "naughty" and she knew if she showed unacceptable behaviour mum would be called. Then after she begen last Friday I had an…

Up Todate Vacinations

Hi can any one help? A member of staff has just updated her first aid and the trainer has stated " we should have a policy of not admitting any one who has not had all their vacinations", because if we do we are putting our pregnant parents at risk and all our other children. This sounds very harsh and impractical. We do ask for details of vacinations on our registration form, but we certainly don't ban children whose are not up todate - would this not be discrimantion and go against inclusive practice. It is obviously recommended by health agencies are vacinated, but with all the various scares surrounding MMR - it is a parents choice after all. Also how …

I am currently reviewing our policies and procedures. I am looking very closely at the medication related forms. In the past when parents have registered their children they sign a blanket form saying they give us permission to give their children calpol (or the like) as long as we gain verbal permission over the phone. We then would ask the parent on collecting the child to sign another form to say that it has been administered. I was wondering what other settings do?? It can be a controversial issue and something that I know that Ofsted is very hot on.

Waiting Lists.............

This is the situation.....we are allowed 24 children in each session, at the moment I have a few spaces available for Sept start.....have on file registration forms for children to start in January & April 2008 which if it stays as it is now I will be over subscribed. Some of the children who will start this week will be funded in January and want extra sessions. Also, going by past experience once we open again after the holidays we always get people wanting to register and take places now( which is money we need).......my question is How does your waiting list work (if you have one) who do you give priority to??? My brain won't work hard enough to figure this …

I Need To Limit The ....

.....number of children we admit to preschool due to a committee decision, they want me to decide on a good figure which I have ,18 children, but can someone tell me ...do I need to say no to number 18 thus leaving an emergency place for a child or can I say yes to number 18 and use 19 as a emergency child needing a place. Sorry if this sounds confusing, but I recollect someone telling me or maybe I read it that I needed to keep a spare place for emergency admittance?? We are registered for 24 children so in effect I would be ok to admit an emergency child, but I need to stipulate to the committee what constitutes an emergency?

Training Policy

I have been reviewing my Employment training and Qualifications policy and this has made me realise the full implications regarding the CDWC ( Childrens workforce development council) qualification requirements by 2010 / 2015. I currently have a manager level 3, the requirements will be that I have a manager at EYPS status by 2015 ( only 9 yrs away !!) Yes, I'm a forward thinker. However, if an unqualified person came to me know it could take up to 9 yrs to achieve EYPS, depending on school leaving qualifications. anyway, I digress, My concern is that I will have to make contract changes to state that my current staff have to achieve certain qualifications within …
