Is it correct that when you change a nappy or item of wet/soiled clothing that it should go in the incident/accident book and the parent must sign in the same way as for an accident ie a fall/bump etc? My sister is doing the NVQ 2 and her tutor said that it is what we should be doing?? I havent heard of this before. We are a sessional pre-school? Jenni

Physical Restraint Policy

Presently my setting (2-4 year olds) uses 'time out' as a way to address unwanted behaviour. It is usually used after '3 reminders of unacceptable behaviour' are given, although i have observed some staff only giving one 'reminder' then telling the child to sit away from an activity for minor incidents such as not tidying away when asked to. I am becoming concerned in a couple of ways about the implementation of this a) that it is starting to be used too frequently for minor things for which other techniques could be used such as 'ignoring (removing attention), distraction techniques, praising a positive point about the child conerned/another child displaying desi…

We are reviewing our child protection documentation, and I'd like to find out what records anyone keeps. There seems to be a lack of consistent advice on this. On a recent course, we were discussing the fact that any records on children should be available to parents, unless there is a child protection issue but this isn't really clear-cut. What would any of you do if you suspect but don't have any concrete evidence? Do you put anything in writing at that point? Or do you speak to parents first and record something then? Or do you do something else entirely?

Photographs To Go Home With Reports.

This question came up at playgroup this morning and I thought I would ask on here as someone is bound to know the answer. We have been taking photos (on PG camera) as evidence of what the children have been doing and we intend to put them with the reports at the end of the year for the parents. Do you only send home individual photos? What about if it was a group activity? We do have one child who is allowed to be photographed for inhouse displays but no way can she be photographed for the local paper. Is it permissable to give the parents group photos? Would appreciate some help, thanks in advance. Mary

Photographs And Foundation Degrees

This is the first time in ages that I haven't been totally sure where to put something, so I'm hoping it is ok here Basically, there was a conversation going on a little while ago about photographs and uploading images from cameras onto personal home computers. At the time that I contributed to that thread, I was allowed to develop photographs on one of those kiosk things found in Boots but now the rules have changed (again ). For my FD I had to plan and implement an activity, using a resource/piece of equipment that supported young children's learning (I am doing the play module at the moment). We had to observe the activity and evaluate it, all in order to …
