Updating Policies
by Guest- 9 replies

I have been looking through the policies at my setting and seen that most of them haven't been updated since the setting opened 2 years ago. Every other place I have worked in have updated them anually and in some instances, the staff have been consulted on them and their content. I would like to update them but am unsure as to where I would find new legislation that needs to be covered as I'm new to all this! I have looked at other policy posts here and have realised that we don't have half of the ones that others have! So I'm going to be a busy bee sorting them all out! Just a couple of questions.... 1. Where can I find new legislation relevant to policies?…

Hi All, Interested in how many of you have business policies/procedures and rules. Went on a managing the money course and was told that as well as the policies/procedures we have for the setting, we should also have seperate policies/procedures/rules for the business. I myself haven't but am now in the middle of producing them. eg - petty cash - who responsible, who spends, how it is recorded and who is allowed to access it. Net xx

we use a large sunday school room attatched to a church hall just lately there has been maintenance work being carried out in the church hall we asked the church to inform us when workers would be around during session times so that we know to expect them and have been told "no, because it doesnt affect you" but it does because we have to answer the doors to let the person in it means there is a stranger on the premesis who we dont know and is not police checked (we can lock doors the prevent access to the children but this is not ideal) also on days when maintenance is being done we cannt use the carpark for out door play, which can mean we set up toys and eq…

Toilet Policy!
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi all Just wanted to know has anyone had to write a toilet policy! We are moving to temporary accommodation (a Church hall) for approx. 6 months after christmas while our new accommodation is being built. Ofsted came and checked it out but nearly didn't give the OK as we will only have one toilet and 19 children, she is only just allowing it providing we write a toilet policy We all think it's funny but of course it will be done just wondered had anyone else had to provide a toilet policy before! The best of it is we only have one toilet where we are now.

We use sasoon primary font with our children but do not encourage much writing but focus on large movements and letter formation through play. We find many parents teach thier child incorrectly and want to send out guidelines. Does anyone have any ideas?

Temperatures
by Guest- 16 replies

As you know - when I joined my nursery, I was staggered to find a blank policy file (well actually, NO policy file!). The staff are very good at taking temperatures, but have no idea what the procedure is if the temperature is high. I have been trying to seek advice from various parties all day - all of whom give out very different advice. What are your procedures, e.g. at what temp do you ring parents? at what temp do you seek medical help?

Critically Evaluating Policies
by Guest- 4 replies

Ok, so for my latest piece of FD work, we have got to choose a policy and critically evaluate it, in order to write a presentation about said policy. I have chosen to look at our equal opportunities policy, because I know most people are going to do Child Protection and thought it would be something different. Where do I start and what sort of things would I need to include as a critical evaluation?? Your advice, as always, would be gratefully appreciated!
