Toiletting Again, Sorry
by Guest- 26 replies

Hi I have done a quick search on the forum and know this has come up many times. We are wading our way through a PLA Accreditation and noted that it states that staff should NEVER be left alone with a child. Now this rang alarm bells with us, as one staff member (vetted obviously) toilets the children individually (as they ask) or in small groups of up to 3. Our toilet is down a corridor from our main hall and completely out of sight of the main hall where the remainder of the staff are. The door to the toilet room is always open and the children are then encouraged to push the actual toilet door shut, but not to lock it and we help as necessary. We p…

As promised, have attached a job advert and specification for a support worker in case it should be of any use to anyone. Am grateful to forum members and other colleagues for their help. Have had it approved by various local professionals attached to the case. Spent ages on it. Now been told that our area senco often suggests that settings use staff already employed to cover this role and that settings employ someone a temporary assistant to work with the other children. How do others feel about that? Wouldn't we get into trouble with equal opportunities? Could we advertise for either a temporary support worker or a temporary assistant to cover all …

Christmas Present For The Teacher
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi everyone. could you give me your views on the topic of parents bring in presents for the pre-school staff. At the moment parents will bring in presents for their leaders and the staff that work with their child. if we get a present in that is to all they go into a "pick" that is shared among us all at the end of the term. The trouble is we are all on diets and end up with 20 boxes of chocolates that we don't want. we don't want to be rude and ask for different things but you can only eat so much chocolate. I thought of putting out a box or jar and labelling the Staffs Christmas fund saying that it would go towards the staffs christmas lunch. Does that sound too ch…

Daily Info For Parents Sheets
by Guest- 9 replies
- 2.1k views
Hi Hoping some of you nursery professionals can help answer this question! My daughters nursery used to send home daily record sheets which detailed activities done that day, toileting, food eaten etc. We have been told this week that these will no longer be sent home to "cut down on staff admin time". Instead the policy is to now display weekly activities and menus on the notice board and all other issues will be delt with verbally at the end of the day. I am fine with the activities and menus being up on the board but the verbal info handover just isnt working. ... Staff cannot always remember if she has eaten her lunch (one will say yes another will say…

Gifted And Talented Policy
by Guest- 9 replies
- 1.1k views
Hi I know this question has been posed before about a Gifted and Talented Policy, but today we received some documentation from Osiris Educational. They state: "No school will have even a satisfactory rating from OfSTED without specific programmes for gifted and talented children" They are trying to sell rather pricey courses, but also state that these courses are for nursery teachers as well as reception. Has anyone got a gifted and talented policy? I have done a search of the forum for one, but although it has been spoken about a lot, I cant find an example. Surely, what the key-worker does with their children facilitates gifted and talented …
