.. what the new Seatbelt Legislation is? One of my colleagues mentioned it today, and we wondered how it will impact on our 'trips' out from Pre School. We usually hire a coach (with lap belts) but are we allowed to do this anymore? I know someone out there will have the answer . . . thanks

Top-up Fees.

You'll only understand this problem if you are experiencing it!! Surely I cannot be the only one who is totally perplexed by the new ruling regarding having to charge parents who are accessing their free entitlement elsewhere the same hourly rate as parents accessing their entitlement with me!? Do I charge all my parents the lower rate and go out of business or the higher rate and exclude those who cannot afford higher fees. The 'bursery' idea seems a bit like launching a liner to cross a pond! Any other solutions out there?

Sleeping Policy
by Guest- 6 replies

Our 0-2's setting is experiencing issues with meeting parents wishes regarding letting children sleep during their day at nursery. Following a team meeting we have found conflicting views regarding whether we should keep children awake (following parents wishes) or allow them to sleep - afterall we are here to meet the children's individual needs, but at the same time we are required to consider parents wishes. I use the term consider - and hopefully get across to parents that it is not always possible to keep a child awake - as it is not always appropriate to wake them after just 1/2 an hour. Our keyworker system allows us to liaise with parents each morning…

A Toilet Question
by Guest- 19 replies

Hello. A friend of mine picked up her son from nursery this afternoon and mentioned that when she got him home, he was complaining that his bottom was sore. So she had a look and said she was horrified to see that he had been to the toilet, but his bottom was still dirty. She was really angry about it and so phoned the nursery to ask why he had been sent home in that state. The manager told her that it was not the policy of the nursery to wipe children's bottoms after using the toilet and that basically there was nothing they could do about it, until the child is able to wipe his own bottom. I have a feeling that we are not meant to wipe children's bottoms, bu…

Eyfs - What It Really Means
by Guest- 17 replies

I put this comment in another post, but then thought it may get lost, so started a new topic. I believe that we are moving towards statutory / compulsory schooling for children aged from 3 yrs. At the present time we only have to deliver the curriculum if we want to receive the education grant. We can still be registered with Ofsted under the care standards alone if we wish. Look at the new EYFS and the legislation that encompasses it. The EYFS now incorporates the National Standards, therefore to be registered with Ofsted it will be compulsory for all providers, including childminders, to deliver the new curriculum. So if parents want childcare, they have no…

Does anyone have a sample copy of a risk assesment for taking children out in the hot weather that I could have a look at. How frequently do staff redo or refer to the risk assessment? Do all staff compile it, or sign it? Thanks

Hi there We have a new member of staff starting and we want to get the CRB check done. We had a letter either from county or Ofsted (but i think county) giving a list of agencies that we could use. Mum is moving and has packed it away somewhere Did a quick search on web and there are literally dozens. Could anyone point me in the right direction or tell me how or who they have used to do the checks. Many thanks Laura
