Sickness Policy

Please can anyone tell me where I can find out the correct time-scales for how many hours/days children need to be off of nursery, if they have different illnesses, e.g. vomiting, chicken pox, etc? I've looked in so many places and there seem to be some discrepency in timescales. Are there national guidelines? Thanks loads!

Power Rangers
by Guest- 3 replies

In Child Initiated time, all my Reception boys (12 out of a class of 20) seem to want to play is Power Rangers. They put various large pieces of outdoor equipment together to make bases, wear the dressing up clothes as capes, then in the writing area make maps, wristbands and hats. They are using their imagination but the play does get very lively and I am not sure that much learning is going on. Some days I say 'no Power Rangers today'. I would like to capitalize on this imagination and channel it in a different way. Any suggestions, please?

Toileting Children

Hi, Just wondered how other provisions went about taking the 3+ children to the toilet. At our nursery we have had a toilet in each room except one. If the chldren were in the room without the toilet and needed to go they would go to the next room whilst being watched by a member of staff. We are near completing a bathroom at the end of thecoridor with 2 new toilets in it. I have never personally worked in a nursery where children take themselves to the toilet in another room, but i know it does happen Is this allowed? What does everbody else do? Is it written down anywhere that children need to be supervised at all time? Sorry for the amount of questions but I…

For Setember I am introducing home visits for each child due to start in our f1nursery. There will be an intake of 60 all starting in sept can you tell me the way you manage home visits, how long you spend etc if you do them yourself. We are attached to a school so ideally the head wants them to be complete asap to get the teacher back into school and the kids to start asap.

Registration 1 2

Please can you offer some advice: Our area Senco would like us to scrap registration completely (due to a small number of disruptive children). We have a self- registration system for when the children arrive but during the morning we have all the children sitting in a circle, we take the register, count the children, do the weather, show and tell etc. Personally, I really like doing it this way as we get so much from the children (although it can go horribly wrong on occasions). How do you do your registation? Jenni B

Ive been going through our operational plan today and looked at the wording of our medication policy, we mention asthma and epipen's in a general paragraph and that staff have undergone training but our policy isnt quite right. our policy mentions medication and how we deal with it and the child during session (filling in foms getting parents consent etc) amongst the wording for medication I had written that "filling in consent forms will not give blanket consent and new forms will be needed for each course of medication" but that doesnt fit asthma inhalers and epipens I want to update our policy and add a specific paragraph explaining our proceedure for emerge…

Outdoor Area Risk Assessments
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi. I have just remembered that I needed to come up with an outdoor area risk assessment but I'm really not sure what to include on it. I have only ever written one other risk assessment before but that was for indoors! We are in a community centre so the garden area is shared between our pre-school and the youngsters who use it during the evenings and weekends. Any ideas as to what I could put on my risk assessment? All help gratefully received! Thanks!
