Declare! No Paperwork Day
by Guest- 25 replies

As we have discussed on other topic (updating operational plan), I declare a 'No Paperwork Day' tomorrow! Put down your pens/paper/keyboards and have a rest - even those who aren't on half term! Just have a good fun day! Make it a 'ME' day, something I'm sure all of us in Early years are lacking. It is Valentines' day too, so even more reason to pamper yourself. Hope you all have a great day - If you are working in a day nursery or similar, you will take heart from knowing that we will all be thinking of you!

Personal Safety Policy

Hi Does anyone have a'Personal Safety and Risk Assessment for Staff policy' or equivalent? I have been on a course and they suggested we have one of these to protect staff e.g. from an irate/abusive parent and that measures should be in place to address this should it happen. Anyone have such a thing? I am a school nursery but we do not have a school policey on this and Head has asked me if I can get hold of a sample. Thanks Megsmum

Risk Assessments!
by Guest- 5 replies

I had a fit persons interview for my new role as manager last week, (i have been the deputy for 15 yrs) my inspector wasn't really happy with our risk assessments she said they weren't detailed enough and we didn't have enough of them, but she didn't give much help as to how to put them right. Has anyone any ideas or copies of risk assessments that have passed Ofsted? I would be very grateful for help as we could have our inspection any time! Thank you Milly

Ratio Adults To Children What Do Others Do
by Guest alisonjayne- 13 replies

I would like to take the children from our Nursery across a very small back road to a wooded area and want some advice on ratios. We are going to go straight out of the school gates and across this road to the woods, our outings policy states we would have a ratio of 2:1 would we need to follow this just to go over this road? Please could others tell me what their policies are, as it will be so difficult to get so many adults in to help. thanks in advance Alison

i wonder if anyone can help me.My head has said that it is not a legal requirement to have a teacher in a nursery which is a ttached to a first school and that Nursery nurses or classrom assisstants can run it.I mentioned this to another EY teacher I know and she said she thought there was legislation coming out this year which says that a Nursery attached to a school DOES require a teacher to be there .Id really appreciate any advice on this .Thank you

Equal Opportunities Policy
by Guest- 15 replies

Hello! I am currently up to my neck in paper trying to rewrite our Equal Opps policy and procedures. Its clearly vital to get it right and I'm concerned that I might miss something. Does any kind person out there feel like sharing theirs on this forum so that I can see how best to set it out and what to include, and where.... In our case, we are a Christian nursery and I'm very keen to express this appropriately in the context of equal opps. Anything you are able to post would be great. Thanks. I'm going back to my pile of paper now............

Would like to hear what you think about a bit of problem we have at the moment. We have a small room, additional to the main playroom, where historically parents have been allowed to wait when dropping off or collecting children if is it raining. Lately parents have been using this room if it is 'cold' outside. We have now asked parents only to use the room when it is raining because * children can be couped up for 5 to 10 minutes in quite a small space when they would really benfit from running around outside in the fresh air to let off steam before they come in. They would certainly go outside later in the session, with no ill effects. * sometimes t…
