I need some help, please! In the dim and distant past (before I needed to know these things), I was vaguely aware of a "head injury" information card that could be given to parents/carers if the child had a mishap in the setting. Basically, it had space for the setting to say "..... happened to your child today." It then went on to say something along the lines of: "We did not think that this was a serious injury and your child has not been unwell since this happened. However, in any cases of head injury, you should get a doctor's advice if ...... and so on". Do any of you use these? What do they actually say? Where can I get them? Thanks in advance. …

Hi This is my first time! I am new to nursery we are in a Foundation stage unit which is basically the wall taken down between the reception and nursery classroom. However we do plan together and work in family mixed groups. Iwas just wondering about the idea of value added from FS1 to FS2. Also I have some very bright children. Does anyone else work in a Foundation stage unit and if so how is. Val

'intimate' Care And Procedures

We have a child starting next year who is undergoing tests and may require suppository treatment while at our setting. I have just spoken to our administrator who is unsure what may be wrong but thinks it may be to do with having fits... She asked if mum would prefer to be contacted but she said it may be a case of emergency and waiting for her would be too long. Anyway, my question really is does anybody know if there is any training (like Epipen training) for the procedure?

Hi Does anyone have a Policy for 'Looked after children'? We have been advised by our LEA to have a named person responsible for working together with all other agencies involved with any 'looked after child'. Have tried to search various LEA websites but cannot find anything relating to Pre Schools and our responsibilities.

in light of recent news reports of a child being left home alone for 2 weeks after his mother died, before the nursery he attended suspected anything, we have discussed the matter of how we stand as a setting. in your settings; does anyone contact the parent if a child does not attend their usual session? if so, how long would you leave it before you do? do you ask parents to contact you if their child is off ill or for any other reason? (we do but sometimes they dont bother) is there a policy out their for this kind of procedure? its not really something i had thought about before, but as one of my staff asked me today what we would do, i said i wou…

Wonder if anyone has had similiar experience and can tell me how it was dealt with please? We have a pre school child who yesterday bit one of the members of staff on the arm resulting in a nasty mark and a trip to the hospital. This has not been an isolated incident as he in the past has hit out, kicked and called names to different members of staff. Parents are involved and an incident book is set up. Any suggestions as to where to go and what do you think should be the next steps for this child? Thanks

I have some parents who constantly bring their children late to pre-school. They don't have to take older siblings to school I often make a joke of it but this doesn't help. I was talking to one of these childrens teacher about other issues concerning the child and she mentioned that he has turned up late for all of the child's school visits so far. She commented that the pattern has been set now so I'm wondering if I should "nip this habit in the bud" in the future. I find it is disruptive and time consuming to let children in after the usual arrival times.i.e. 9.00-9.10. It also upsets younger children who have just settled. I would be grateful to know how others deal w…
