Hi all, We have a child with suspected ADHa at school, he is supposed to do 4 sessions per week but we are lucky if he comes in 2x. his cousin also attends our setting.... the cousins mum approached my deputy today to basically say she had been dumped with said child and his siblings of 9, 12...... they were awake till midnight last night refusing to go to bed. She then went on to say that the mother leaves all the boys on thier own in the evenings and goes out drinking.. which is why sometimes he dosnt come in as she is in bed!!!! Our H.V was in earlier and said that we had to get this mother to either talk to the mum directly or call social services!!!! (w…

Hi! I am in a nursery setting within a school! I am asking for help on behaviour management strategies in my setting when trying to gain children's attention. Now that the children have attended the nursery for 1 term, they now seem to have found some new confidence and are testing the waters a bit by raising their voices, talking to each other during circle time and some general distracting of the group! Each child's behaviour is not severe and usually they are angels, I dont just want to get into the habit of raising my vioce to try and get them to listen to the group- I have tried using hand signals such as hold my hand in the air and they copy me, but som…

Early Intervention Policy

Hello! I'm a brand new member and have really enjoyed catching up on lots of the posts on this fantastic site. I've been asked to write an early intervention policy for my nursery class regarding language and mathematics. Has anyone got any examples or tips - I've had a good look on the site and can find no references to any of them anywhere. Have also been asked by the LEA to write a Whistle Blowing policy - don't have a clue there! Can anyone help please? I'm in the dark. Thank you Kristina

Behaviour - What Would You Do? 1 2

During our Ofsted inspection last week, at circle time (the whole group of 10 children were sat listening to a story with flaps to lift, taking turns) one child, sat at the back rolled over and started crawling away from the group and under a table. Another followed him. They were not in danger of physical injury, they were unlikely to damage property. They were giggling and making a little noise distracting each other (and some of the other children) from listening to the story. How would you have handled this situation? Carolyn

I have put up with quite a bit of rudeness from a parent at my Pre-school especially over the last term. Whenever I speak to her about her childs behaviour she is usually agressive and blames everyone else (even their dog for his behaviour). Apparently the child is extremely badly behaved at home, although apart from today he has greatly improved at Pre-school. His behaviour at home is blamed on us, when he painted the walls, himself and the dog blue, when he spits his drink out - all this she blames on us - and more!!! I have tried all ways of helping but come up against a brick wall with her. She definitely doesn't want outside help - she told me very firmly that she…

I have recently had an incident at preschool when a child was accidentally kicked in the head during roly poly play. The accident wasn't witnessed, the child didn't cry and it was only when I saw him sitting quietly that I asked if he was o.k. He said he was accidentally kicked, I checked and found no marks, bruising or bump. I assumed that he was coming down with a bug that has affected a few children over the last few weeks. 20 minutes later, he was still quiet but appeared comfortable as I read him a story. At this time mum arrived to collect him, he ran over to her and was promptly sick. I told mum of the accident, but we also discussed the possibility …
