Admisssion Age?

Following on from Hali's question about taking a set of twins at 2 when the starting age for her group is two and a half I was wondering what age groups were registered for? We are registered for 2 years and I had thought that this was the case for all pre-schools/playgroups. Linda

Taking Children Who Are Not Toilet Trained 1 2

Hi All I know this is probably going to fall on very few ears at the moment but I just wondered what your policy is on taking children who are not clean or dry. I was at a meeting last week of pre-schools from the local area and we were talking about the age we took children Somebody said that they were not going to lower their age intake to two and a half as they didn't want children they were going to have to change. Their policy is that they had to be clean and dry. Now, I don't know where I got this from, but I was lead to believe that we could not discriminate against children because they weren't toilet trained. Has anybody else heard this and if so where was it…

Hi Steve, Just browsing through 'Nursery Policies and Procedures' looking for some inspiration for an introduction to part of my current Dpp unit. You had mentioned on 14 April 2003 that information could be accessed by pressing the hyper-link 'here'. I tried, but nothing came up. Although I manged to access the policy examples and also Jan's policies. Any suggestions? I would like to read it if possible. Thanks Tracy

Best Practice
by Guest- 5 replies

Just wondered how you all go about sorting out your pre-school sessions. Do you have the older children in mornings and younger children afternoons ?? or do you have groups of mixed ages. The reason I am asking is because until recently we had different rooms for the younger and older children and now we have mixed them because we were told it was best practise but in fact I don't think it is. Instead of the younger children learning by the older childrens example it works the other way round , just wondered if anyone had any views on this.

Introducing The Foundation Stage

HELP i have just been informed that i have to prepare a 10-15 min presentation on the Foundation Stage (in nursery) for the governors' meeting. They are not aware of the changes that have taken place in this area and will have to briefed on what- how- etc of what the foundation stage is. they still have visions of it being 'just playing'- if they only knew- well i'm hoping to illuminate them on the subject. Any suggestions and advice please This presentation is for Wednesday.

I have 39 children and as the only class teacher the expectation is that I will meet all the parents in individual meetings. We have a system where we can timetable our own appointments over a pre determined week, with the late night on the thursday, but even so this will take for ever! I'm thinking of other ways this could be done in the nursery. Any other systems that work well out there??

Father's Day

what's your take on father's day? do you acknowledge and make cards for dad in your nursery or is it not considered Political correct to clebrate dad's contributions? I would be interested to hear form others. Last year I spoke to singel parents and asked if they had any objections to theri child making a card for their (absent) dad. For the chidlren for whom this was not possible, they made a card for a grandad or uncle or even brother they loved. What are you views. I would love to hear from others.

We have a new Head and she is keen for our nursery children to change into a PE kit, leotards or shorts and T-shirts and pumps, for their physical activites. At present we just remove shoes and socks and jumpers etc. if they are doing movement /dance, or using our indoor physical play equipment. We have never felt changing to be necessary, and it would be very time consuming when we only have them for 2 1/2 hours each day. I would be grateful for comments on this. What do you all do?
