Help! Difficult Behaviour

We have a child in our (school) nursery who soils himself, and this seems to be on purpose. I have spoken to the parent and recommended a visit to the doctor or health visitor. The mother says he does it at home and smears excrement over the walls. My headteacher would like to exclude him until he stops. Any ideas???

I'm hoping for some advice from others.............. I have just returned from the setting at which I work. This morning, we had more children present than our certificate of registration permits. We exceeded this (and the maximum group size in the Sessional Care National Standards, Standard 2.3) by 2 children and a baby. I raised this at one of our infrequent staff meetings (held at the end of the session today). The leader said that exceeding the specified number in the group was allowable because two parent helpers were present, one of whom was responsible for her own child and her baby, and the other who was responsible for her own child. We had si…

Policy Writing Policy

All this discussion of policies is making my head spin. Anyway, it reminded me of a policy that I wrote one Sunday afternoon just before OFSTED visited, when I was overwhelmed by the prospect of writing yet another policy. It was entitled 'Policy writing policy'. I wish I'd kept a copy, as it was very witty (although I say it myself). But the funniest thing was that when I photocopied it and put a copy in each staff member's tray, not one person queried it. They all filed it in their policy files to refer to in future. Now, I'm not sure now how funny that is. Maybe it's just a stark reminder of how policy-crazy we had all become........ Or maybe nowadays …

Not that we're planning on losing any staff but does anyone have an example of an exit interview form that they would be willing to share. It would be very helpful (why reinvent the wheel?). Thanks

One of my main feeder schools has just been put on special measures. They have 1 year to address the weaknesses, Reception classes are O.K. as these children have a good sound knowledge in all the learning areas. Many parents have asked my opinion. My gut feeling is to tell them to support the school but they are all very shocked at the moment and I don't know what advice to give them. I have not come across this situation before.

Hi I've scanned through the subject on policies and can't find one mentioned - does anybody have a policy or procedure on dealing with "bodily fluids"? As others have mentioned, I have taken the PLA guide and we've gone through it adjusting all the necessary policies for our setting (and there are loads!). On top we have one for late/non payment of fees and late/non collection of children. The whole thing started last September and the policies we do have, have only just been formally adopted by the Committee... Anyway, we haven't yet had our Ofsted, so we'll be fine. We identified a potential need for a policy/proceedure for dealing with fluids, but ther…

My playgroup meets in the village hall and all equipment has to go away each session. At the moment our Frist Aid kit is put out in the main hall along with the register, accident book etc. Strictly speaking it is not inaccessible to children though. However, I feel that putting it elsewhere will cause delays should the first aid kit be needed. What do other people do?
