Not quite sure where to put this question but we have a child who last week elbowed one of my members of staff in the mouth resulting in her bleeding quite a bit. This was after she had asked him to move from standing on a book. The following day I was kicked, punched, pinched, nearly bitten, and spat at on our walk home from the park. We have had copious problems with this child and his behaviour and are in discussion with mum and the LA BUT my question is - Do you have a specifically written policy stating what will happen when a child hurts/attacks a member of staff and if this behaviour doesn't cease can you ask the child to leave?

Hi, This may sound like a really strange question but in terms of nappy changing what does everyone do. we currently have set times in the day where all children are changed, but then we do additional changes as and when necessary. But my question is what is a reasonable amount of time between nappy changes? our first change is also at 10am but the children do not arrive until 8.15 so it seems pretty quick

Hi all, I would really appreciate some help, I'm trying to ensure all policies are in place and suitable (for a nursery class), I know previously there was a link to a list of required policies on the Ofsted website but sadly the link doesn't work and I can't find an updated list. Does anybody know or have a list of required policies? Any help gratefully received! Thanks R :-)

Last week at our staff training day, the issue of having a lock down policy was raised. Our local primary school has one and one of my staff runs Beavers and she has had to do one recently. We went round and round in circles discussing what we would do in the event of a major incident but didn't come up with a final solution (at school they have a special bell that rings and the children are told to up turn all the tables, close the blinds, cover the windows in the doors and hide anywhere they can). In our setting it is very open plan, only a few tables and a cupboard big enough for about 3 people! I was just wondering if anyone had a lock down policy? I have con…

I have had a couple of children receive insect bites whilst outside, one of whom had a bit of a reaction to it (raised, hot red all across half of his face.) If he was my boy at home I would have given him some anti-histamine and kept a close eye on him, but here at nursery we don't keep anti-histamine unless it has been given to us by the parents. therefore, as a precaution, we sent him home. Anyway, here is my question... Do any of you keep anti-histamine on site and use it in a similar way to your own policies on paracetemol? (btw: I know how different everyone's views on temperatures/calpol/sending home are!) If not, what is your policy on an insect bi…

We are finding recently that we have a few heavy 3 years olds still in nappies and occasionally a 4 year old. We are struggling to lift them on to a nappy changing unit and I wondered if any of you have a policy that over a certain weight you change them on a changing mat on the floor? Is this PC correct? Anti-bac spray involved of course!

I have just been reading the thread whereby a child managed to leave the setting and it has raised a question. Do you get your parents' to sign their child out when they come through the door or when they leave? We do it as they come through the door then we always have one parent who will stand and chat whilst her child is running riot inside and out. This means that we are still having to keep an eye on him to stop him from running out of the gate into the road etc. He will see his mum and take his chance to run out of the building and create havoc outside whilst she is still inside and we feel duty bound to look after him even though she has signed him out. Who is tec…

Hi everyone I wonder if any of you lovely people would share what you pay per hour for hiring your halls. I know this would be more along the lines of pre-schools but anyone who would share would be great. Thank you

Hi Am having a minor issue in the baby room which I wondered if anyone else shared. We have an exclusion policy for diarrhoea and temperature. However with babys parents blame any signs of this on teething. This is a really tricky issue. When I looked it up on the NHS it said there was no proven link between these symptoms and teething. Has anyone else come up against this issue?

Do you all complete a pre-school accessibility plan? Does anyone have a template for one that I can look at please. Ours seems quite outdated. :1b
